Monday was 13 years no cigs
April 1st, 21 years smoke free.
Alcohol, not so much, although I've had some "dry spells".

Not sure when I officially quit, but it’s been over 3 years without cigs. I quit at the beginning of the pandemic, since there was a novel respiratory virus circulating and I didn’t want to compromise my lungs. That’s the one good thing that came out of Covid times.
I was hiking up a steep bluff yesterday and noticed how I wasn’t huffing and wheezing. Good stuff!

Never understood the habit of smoking. Most disgusting thing I've ever tried.

It makes you look cool for being an addict, and it shows that you’re a rebel by supporting a trillion dollar evil industry.

After helping out my father-in-law after his open heart surgery and reflecting on my own family's history of heart disease, I've decided to quit nicotine this week. It's such a dumb addiction.. no high, nothing fun in return, just pure craving and the satisfying of craving. I somehow got myself addicted to vaping without ever having been a daily cigarette smoker (though I used to chain smoke when drinking, and I drank every weekend). Since working from home the past couple of years I've grown accustomed to sucking on this thing all day, spending too much money, always worrying about batteries and shit if I'm away from home. I picked up some patches and I'll be working out of coffee shops or at the library or wherever, where I won't be able to break as easily.

Funnily enough, never minded being surrounded by smokers at home or in bars. My mom smokes since she was 12 or so.
Like, I don't like the smell, but I'd never make faces if someone is smoking next to me. I definitely prefer bars or restaurants without smoke, but it never was a big deal to me.
But I remember that very first try, with other kids, all of us trying to be the coolest and smartest of the bunch.
Jesus Christ, I almost puked.
I do know it can be incredibly tough to quit so congrats to everyone who's made it. One of my best friends totally changed as a person when he decide to quit. I mean, his ways and behavior towards the rest. Almost became autistic (!?).
I decided to dedicate myself to sweet sweet mediterranean wine only.

I quit smoking for good about 12 years ago. It's one of those habits that leaves you going, "why the fuck did I ever do that?" I play in a band with an older guy who smokes like a chimney, and it seems more sad than cool.
