I don't think the word groupthink is applicable.

I don't think the word groupthink is applicable.

Call it what you like, I was using some stupid buzzwords for effect, but the idea is that you stop responding to people with differing opinions, further isolate yourself, and completely kill the idea of legitimate fora. But I think "self-deception" and "manufacture of consent" are appropriate descriptors. My biggest concern is really that this is how the lazy "upvote" and "like" culture works on mass media social sites, which I hate. This is where the slut-shaming comes in. Lets not even bother engaging with others...can I just press a button to register my disapproval, and drive agendas that then feed an algorithm, which show me the advertising that I need to better my life. It's Orwellian. In short...suck it up and deal with your fellow humans rather than let Big Brother hand-hold you through life. There are not that many mostly reasonable places that still allow for that, I rather not see it die completely.

Threads here back in the day used to turn into the same 3 or 4 people getting into the same arguments over and over. Maybe those people would have been better off finding their bubbles from the get go and sparing the rest of us.

@zorg - then you don't have to do it. See? Problem solved.

After that you're just telling others how to engage with the world as YOU see fit. Why would you care whether I interface with a couple of people I cannot stand to listen to?

It borders on censorship to say that people shouldn’t speak publicly about their experiences or decisions. It’s not like there’s a campaign to silence anyone, just individuals sharing how they feel about a mutual subject. Don’t act like people didn’t gang up on deep.btuz or any other trolls, with far greater vitriol then has ever been expressed in this thread. I don’t think anyone needs to wring their hands about the issue. Again, it’s a personal choice, and as has been stated in this thread, most people aren’t choosing to do so.

Certainly when I'm looking for a wide variety of opinions on a diverse range of topics, my first thought is to join the messageboard of a niche music recording studio. Truly, this is the braintrust that will help mold and shape my worldview.
