The proof: Exodus has a very different vibe on the first one, largely due to Paul Baloff. I personally can’t do the Steve Souza stuff.
The exception: Overkill did two good but not great speed metal albums before really finding their niche. Under the Influence and Years of Decay are where they really fired on all cylinders. Later stuff isn’t as unified in its vision, despite being well put together for the most part.
