John Hughes was the director and producer of the 1980s comedies.
John Holmes... as you know, was a 1970s bisexual porn star and drug dealer who died of AIDS in 1988.
But the full story is pretty awful.
He kept his disease a secret, presenting bogus medical documents to hide his disease from production companies in order to keep working. When his declining health and sudden weight loss became obvious, he told everybody he had colon cancer. It is estimated that he was directly responsible for infecting over a dozen men and women in the early 1980s porn industry, and nobody knows how many others.
His involvement in a cocaine ring is also linked to the notorious "Wonderland" mass murder in LA County in 1981. The movie Boogie Nights was loosely based on John Holmes' life.
