and the songwriting unbearable. i hope i never have to hear "bull in the heather" again, for the rest of my life.

and she should stop doing interviews. every time she opens her mouth she sounds like a pomo-art-house fool. i started to view sonic youth as one big prank on the clever/ironic-post-punk world after reading "our band could be your life," mostly because of all the BS they had to say.

A: "our stooges cover was tongue in cheek"
B: "no it wasn't"
C: "wait, guys, i got it! it was tongue"
[A and B nod in serene approval]

I must be in the minority here, but I far, far prefer Kim Gordon's voice to Thurston's.

As a bass player, she's nothing much. Then again, neither were Will Shatter or Bruce Loose, but at least they were really trying (and succeeding).

I'm pretty sure that Gordon regards the bass as a "weak" instrument, and I just don't think she tries all that hard at all to be a better bassist.

Too bad. She's quite a good guitar mangler, as one listen to "Inhuman" proves.

As a vocalist, I like her quite a lot; I actually find her voice quite interesting. Thurston just sounds incredibly self-impressed a damn lot of the time. Kim actually sounds like she means it, whatever she may be singing. She seems like a real, fully-fledged person, while (to me, obviously) Thurston just sounds quite a lot of the time like a pretentious, overgrown teen rocking Poetry Slam Open Mic Night for his first time.

On a final note, I find it somewhat bizarre that a lot of men still lust quite voraciously after a woman who is a year younger than my mother.

Kim Gordon is definitely Not Crap.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

steve, si, 'immune,' she is more accurate term to use, and less pejorative, which is good not to use the word 'deaf' in reference to a recording engineer!

so you are 'immune!' or 'desensitized,' or even insensitive,' perhaps! but not 'deaf!' or deaf!

Also, not def.
Well, dog pee !!!!!

Actually, Lee Renaldo is the better singer and he and Steve Shelly are the primary talents of SY. In fact, if Kim and Thurston decided to quit Sonic Youth to raise kids who will probably grow up to be pretentious little ass-munches, Steve and Lee could probably carry on just fine.
You call me a hater like that's a bad thing

Speaking the fakey italian she makes noises laugh laugh. i like it. was just fad 2005 that has left on side of road??

As you can see me date of registration at 2006.

That is the worst fake Italian I've ever read.

Which makes it the best then?
I'm confused.

I figure her bass lines are simple in the same way that you one doesn't need anything much fancier than a rope to restrain two fighting cats.
Really, if she were all over the place in ADDITION to the guitars, the band would not work.
She is the anchor, musically.

As her songs go, I too like Beauty Lies and Brave Men, but her finest hour is Daydream Nation. She was firing on all cylinders when they recorded that album. Standing in the park in Chicago with Kerble this summer, watching SY play that record from start to finish, it hit me that she was more than 1/4 of the band on that one.
