The rest is littered with awesome guitar and dreadful indulgence, but their first seven or eight years were incredible. Mind boggling meld of Link Wray, Leather Nun, the Damned, the Stooges, alien abduction paranoia, societal dread and Neil Young.

glad to know that you like Greg Sage!

Up untill reading your post, I was unsure of how he was doing things on the records, thanks for clearing that up.

I too had assumed there were overdubs, but then realised it was all too seemless.

Jeez - Hot Snakes need two guitars to make that sound.

Can anyone shed any more light on the technical aspects of Greg Sage's guitar playing? Like tunings, gear - anything like that?

As far as gear, I think he usually played a Gibson SG into an Ampeg V4 into a 2x15" cab, back when. I think. That's what sticks in my head.

Dunno now.

I don't know anything about how he does his thing, technically. But he's great.

this cover was my introduction to The Wipers in '01 or '02 i think? all kinds of NOT CRAP going on here.

Straight ahead is really great. Follow Blind as well, i think. it has been a while...

i payed too much for vinyl copies of Over The Edge and Youth Of America and regret nothing.

The image on the cover of the box set, assuming it's representative of this classic gear set-up, is as you describe. Additionally, there's a Binson Echorec sitting on the Ampeg.

I'm somewhat suprised Sage didn't play an amp of his own design. Then again, the Wipers weren't exactly rolling in dough.

Greg Sage also played guitar on a record for a local wrestler from back in 1971, when Sage was 17. Wrestler's name is Beauregarde. This guy was a hoot. His record is simply titled "Beauregarde".

This record and the first Wipers record have been very lovingly repressed (with permission) by a local record shop. See Jackpot Records if you're interested.

Thought you all would be interested to know this. I found this online in an archived MySpace chat about what gear Greg Sage used.

I went on a Wipers binge fairly recently while at home. I kept playing it all over the place. The car. The kitchen. For showering times. At first everyone in my family HATED it. Which I find to be totally absurd. But I just kept playing 'em, especially Over the Edge, and eventually I think they came to realize that the Wipers are quite amazing. I think they're one of those bands that takes a little while to appreciate, but once you get it, damn, you really get it. Like woah.
