What do you remember seeing in downtown St. Paul then?
I'm not familiar with "The Fudge Packer", maybe you could "fill me in".

72No, you're right- downtown St. Paul seemed quite tame.
Perhaps that is what appealed to me, after the dizzying, kaleidoscopic rush of Minneapolis nightlife. I'm not getting any younger, you know.

Edina is probably your ideal speed.

74I think it's safe to say that the majority of the midwest is infected with some form of assholism when it comes to driving.
Ever been to Wisconsin? They hate Illinois drivers...where 10 miles over the speed limit is a way of life. They are extreme NOT assholes when it comes to driving. I can jaywalk across a busy street and they'll slow down from a mile away.
It actually bugs the shit out of me. The cops hate Illinois drivers too...you have to be paranoid driving a car with IL plates up there. I wish they'd drive faster, but they obey every fucking law!

I think I celebrated a birthday in the Minneapolis Buca di Beppo. Some Italian place that was painted to look like a Florentine piazza or something. It was like they opened up a restaurant on the set of a high school production of "Romeo & Juliet." I got a cheesecake with a candle in it at the end. The cheesecake was pretty good.

Take that, St. Paul.

77Again, what did you see and do in downtown St. Paul?
Please say "A Prairie Home Companion".

That show is way too loud and raucous, and plus all the "jokes" go over my head. No, thanks.

80St. Paul has a great Italian restaurant. They had the Payne Reliever (strip club/rock bar), but no more.
The former is great. The latter was seedy. That's all I can say about that particular town, other than I wouldn't condemn it.
