Ghost Stories

I saw my brother-in-law the other weekend. He was telling me about the house that he used to live in when he was a kid. It had previously been occupied by a man called Fred who had died (in the house) of cancer.

One night, when my brother-in-law was about 3 he was playing with some toys when one of the toys went underneath his bed. He knelt down to retrieve it and saw a 'man' lying under the bed! He ran to tell his Mum & Dad and was told about the story of Fred. Apparently, when they were living in this house they had all sorts of poltergeist activity going on. A vase was thrown off a ledge on the stairs and smashed, and their dog was thrown down the stairs and broke its leg (!).

With him being a somewhat phlegmatic Yorkshireman I have no reason to believe that he's made this up. Finding a 'man' lying under your bed has to be one of the ultimate childhood nightmares!

I am apparently devoid of the gene that gives people sensitivity to this stuff. I have never "had the feeling" or seen anything ghostlike anywhere. Perhaps that's a good thing, as I'm pretty sure I would be back researching real estate title if I was being "dropped in on" by the departed at the funeral home.
