Vintage Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicamasters, and Jaguars all have swappable necks, no problem. They all fit vintage reissue USA stuff too. You get into a bit of a problem with US vs Japanese/Chinese/Korean (metric). Plus some newer versions of both aren't 24" scale. So watch out for weirdo models.

I think I have an extra 1960s Mustang bridge (chrome plated brass/steel, not shit metal) if you end up going that route. I might have a few AVRI parts too. I'll check.

My Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ started blowing fuses some days ago.
it work fine the night before and then blew the fuse the next day when I powered it up.

here’s what I observed:
I pulled all tubes, the Amp powered up
I plugged the preamp tubes back in, the amp powered up.
I measured the filament with the tubes pulled and it looked ok.
I tested all power tubes (12 6L6 tubes) in my DIY portaflex, they all warmed up as they should, none of them blew the fuse of the portaflex.
I plugged one of the power tube back into the Mesa Boogie and it immediately blew my last spare fuse.
I’ll bring the amp to a tech next weekend, but I’m curious what could cause such an issue. Thanks.

possibly, yeah. I could not find a schematic. so I don’t know if the there’s a separate filament tap for the preamp tubes because those don’t blow the fuse.

It could be a number of things. If you had a current-limiting device to keep fuses from blowing it'd be interesting to see if there's an overcurrent condition with the same tube in other sockets, or with different tubes.

Could be something as simple as when a tube is plugged into a certain socket, something is shorting to ground?

I’m not going to poke around in an amp that runs on over 400V. I’ll let the tech figure it out and will report back. I do hope it’s something simple, but at least it looks like the tubes are fine, as they should be replaced with matched tubes, 2x6, that would be quite expensive……..

Is the normal channel of a (Dual) Showman (non-reverb) pretty much the same as the normal channel of a blackface Bassman (AA864 or AB165)?

Depending on the version of the Dual Showman, though you have entirely different power amp sections so they'll sound pretty different. The late 60's silverface dual showman (non-reverb) and the AB165 Bassman have very similar "Normal" channels.

It's more similar to the normal channel of the Bandmaster, but with a Middle knob instead of a preset mid. It's not far from the Bassman, but I'd say the Showman is a little more scooped (less mids) and doesn't get quite as dirty. It's probably closer in sound to the normal channel of the AB165 than the AA864/AA165
