Yeah, I bought an Origin 20 combo for cheap and kind of love how it sounds.

But yeah, probably built like total dogshit.
Its safe to bet that any reasonably priced modern amp is built like total dogshit. Or, more likely, its that what we think is "reasonable" is not really reasonable. This 1972 Marshall price sheet has a 1987 head at $400 ($3000 in today dollars):
This 1976 Hiwatt listing has a 50W at about the same ($3K) in today's dollars:
Those are pricey imports, but even a Bassman head in 1976 is $1650 in today's money:

And analog synthesizers were even more, like I think a prophet-5 was $3999 when it came out in 1978??

Since I don't think that this got a mention...
If the Idea is heading towards a Friedman but still being in the "Edge Of Breakup..." neck of the woods?
Seriously consider looking into the Quilter Superblock UK.
The "1979 JMP..." setting?
It ain't no joke.
I have never once gotten along with a Marshall, but that setting on the Superblock?
It might be what I would keep if I could just keep one amp.

My mate’s got an Origin 20 head and it’s honestly one of the best sounding amps I’ve ever played.

I played on and loved the way it sounded, but I didn't need it at the time, and I don't now. Many have since remarked that they're not well made, difficult to service, etc, and that's beyond what I know, but still. I'd use it in a pinch for sure.
