Your story rules, burun. Mine isn't nearly as good!
I dropped my wife off for class tonight, driving into a huge cloud of smoke from a nearby
burning building. I came home, watched about ten minutes of a science special about the planets (Jupiter has a liquid metallic core probably). After having just enough time to cook up some
Tasty Bite Bombay Potatoes, I went back downtown again. Damn is it smokey!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A gesture's a gesture, innit? Buy some records.
I shall buy records by black and eastern European musicians, since this would be something my in-laws would not approve of.

I had drinks at Overlook in Midtown with co-workers to celebrate the end of a work project and to give one bride-to-be a send-off before her nuptials. It was karaoke night and I'm an inveterate ham. Last time, they got me to do Elvis and Pat Benetar. This time, the bride requested her wedding song, which will be "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green. I told her there was no way I was even going to attempt Al Green, even if I never actually try to sing when I do karaoke, but instead just sort of talk and mug and try to make people laugh.
So I did "Suspicious Minds" while she sat at my feet, performing a completely over-the-top drunk Elvis and leering at her suggestively. It was a big hit with the bar and she was pleased.
When I ordered my drinks, I forgot that "2 for 1" at Overlook does not mean that they'll charge me for my Maker's Mark rocks and give me my Bass for free. They brought me 2 tumblers of Maker's and 2 beers. Then I had more. Now I'm hungover.
And god help me, I don't care how bourgeois and stupid it is, getting smashed and doing really bad karaoke is fun.

Many months ago one of our cats went missing for a week or so. When it returned it had a new collar on it which we replaced with a different collar and a new name/number-tag.
The next day an irate, crazy man called us up claiming that we'd stolen his cat. There wasn't much we could do and the cat (our cat) again disappeared to live with this crazy guy (we would sometimes see it, sans collar around the neighbourhood).
Last night the phone went, and upon answering I found a young guy stating that he had found a cat with our number on its collar and that he had been feeding it for a few days to see if it would return to it's home without his intervention. It hadn't.
This guy lives on the far side of the city, so God only knows what's going on. I guess the crazy guy dumped the cat for some reason, complete with it's original collar...dunno.
Anyhoo, the kids are blown away by the return of Josh, although the other cats are less enthused.
Although I'm obviously aware of the fickle nature of cats, I can't pretend I'm not deeply annoyed it's repeated acts of betrayal.
Weird.

Last night, what started out as a couple of pints on my own with my book in the Yellow Rose turned into a great and totally spontaneous night with three of my closest friends who had never actually met each other before, Gary, Steve and Catherine. We all got pissed together and played the pub quiz, and lost, yeehah! Good friends meeting good friends is one of the most satisfying experiences one can have, I think.

About a week ago I was walking to work down Belmont past EA again and lo and behold, I walked right past whom I believe to be Mr. Albini getting out of a cab. And I swear, I am not a stalker!

A woman I used to work with (I think I mentioned her on this thread) has left her husband and asked to stay at my place.
I haven't even moved into my place yet. Now there's a 39 yr old woman, mother of one of my friends, sleeping on the sofa there.
Strange situation.
