I am embarrassed to say that before today I had never watched Lost in Translation.

Holy shit does this film hit close to home. Business travel. Mid life crisis. Imperfect marriage. Fleeting non-romantic relationships while on the road. By myself and not knowing the local language. The calls from home and the guilt for not being there. The sleepness nights. The hotel bars. The loneliness.

Fuck.

I was on a trip to NYC when this came out, and went to see it one night. 25-year old zircona1 thought, "wow, movies are expensive here!"

Don't let M Night Shyamalan's role as a producer turn you off - Caddo Lake is a smart twisty-turny time jump scifi head scratcher with great performances and a Mobius script that ngl left me a bit discombobulated during the third act but still hit hard. Got a li'l weepy.

Attack the Block was a gas! Cool aliens.

Delicatessen, for the first time. Wonderful. Chased it with the 2007 version of Funny Games. Also wonderful.
