"Good guys" seems especially naive, no? How about "the country where innocent people are being bombed over corrupt abstractions" . . . is that any clearer?Krev wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 6:38 pm I'm not sure who the good guys are in this conflict. It's not Trump, Netanyahu or Hegseth.
Re: Politics
7682Yeah, and I don't mean literally. Even in flagrant mistakes like Iraq, we were being sold some narrative of being in the right. I haven't heard that delivered in any earnest manner here. The objective seems to be steal more oil. Does that make Trump more transparent than Bush?gotdamn wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 8:34 pm"Good guys" seems especially naive, no? I'd rather be throwing darts.

It hasn’t been front page news til now.
Re: Politics
7684I love the part of foreign policy where we compare death tolls and rank the atrocities. Who's gonna win it this year???!!!

Well, one’s an outlandish fabrication and the other is the most significant war crime of the new century. Gramsci has longstanding issues with Islam and is willing to believe duplicitous figures produced from alphabet agency-adjacent NGOs based in *Virginia^ that are being drawn up to justify a war. To compare a brutal crackdown on protests to a genocide is insane at best. If I were less charitable I would call it stupid and mean.Frankie99 wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:57 pm I love the part of foreign policy where we compare death tolls and rank the atrocities. If we can recall the process of events that lead to replacing Saddam Hussein with Isis or Gaddafi with Isis or or or. It is possible to go from life under a dangerous military dictatorship to straight up medieval conditions. That’s bad to much, much worse by any metric.
Of course reasonable people in Iran would choose a better government if they could, just like we would, but that doesn’t give the US the right to bomb the country into oblivion before divvying up the rubble between marauding warlords.
It’s insane that the same justifications for the 2nd Iraq war are being handed out again, and they definitely shouldn’t go unchecked here. Believing in that shit is cop behavior and it sucks, especially now. People have to start developing defenses against misinformation because it’s only going to get worse.
Re: Politics
768635,000 is the estimate for Iranian protests. It’s actually around 75,000 for Gaza. My bad. Which of course makes totally okay.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 8:00 pmOk, I am breaking my rule where I ignore anything you post about Muslims but you are posting some bangers. I should remind you. It took the Israeli armed forces over two years to reach that number. The wizards in Iran got halfway there in a few weeks. Forgive me, I must have missed all the protests against the mass executions in Iran.
Also, how is this “shit I talk about Muslims”? Are we doing that tankie thing where Russia and Iran are actually really just misunderstood, and their standing up to the US and NATO means they’re “leftist”? Iran is a right wing capitalist theocratic dictatorship. I’m perfectly happy as a leftist to say fuck everything about that government.
Nothing about what I said was anti Muslim. But I am anti clerical to the bone and will never support any form of theocracy. Those who been here long enough will remember long arguments between members about the borderline theocracy that crept in during the Bush terms. No Muslims needed.
See initial comment about holding more than one idea at once. The same way I think Israel did war crimes but Hamas can all be dropped from airplanes into the Med.
