RE: GK Amps. I miss the 800RB amp. Most of you know this, but fro those who dont, all the 800RBs from inception until maybe about 2010 had three circuit boards inside. There were preamp, power amp, and power supply, though the latter two weren't quite as discreet. Anyway, these boards are swappable between any units of any age. If the preamp of your 1989 800RB got noisy, you could put in a board from a 2004 800RB using nothing nut a philips scredriver and something to loosen/tighten the nuts on the pots.
I love the idea of just have 2-3 of these, being able to swap out whole boards when things go wrong, and then casually replacing parts on the broken boards to fix them when possible. However, I've not played bass in a band in 15 years... but I still like that idea.
I sold my 800RB too soon in my Replicator days. I wanted to make my own thing, but what I perceived as a weakness in the 800RB was actually shitty cabs. If I'd replaced my cabs first, I might have just stuck with the 800.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
772I've been keeping an eye out for a cheaper 800 for that reason. Bought my 800 because if it was good enough for Metz, who am I to need more. I thought kind of the same thing and then I built two TL606 cabs and it was just the thing - and then one of them with a 400 is a nice option for smaller stages.benadrian wrote: Fri Jun 23, 2023 1:11 pm RE: GK Amps. There's a low end aspect of the 400 that we've found suits synth a bit better than the 800, but I probably just need to set up the crossover better - the 400 is more than enough anyway for that duty.
I have the three 400s because anytime I saw one for $150 or less, I couldn't not justify it given what someone can spend on pedals these days.
I'm the backup amp guy for all my friends, I like that feeling.
With light compression and a rat I can get the 400 to aallllllmost be right where my tube head is, and that's 99% good enough for me
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
773I just bought another broken 800RB this morning. I think that makes number 8 or 9.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
774Freshly serviced/recapped BSS DPR 402.
Got this as part of a sale/trade for a mic I probably should've kept, but I've more than trippled my investment in the deal and I know dude will let me borrow back the mic if I ever need it.
Yay outboard gear.

Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
776Finally ordered a pile of parts to recap my Brownface Deluxe.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
777I just bought a Teac A2340 4 Track Reel to Reel and a Teac A7010 Reel to Reel in like new condition from some old HiFi dude. I got the Pair for $550. I think that is a pretty good deal, but I'm not really sure. I don't need them at all but it seems like fun to do a all analog 4 track project and these will do the trick. It's going to be a good time.

778Modded '70s Tele Bass.
Looks like it was listed for a while and then had a steep drop in price, so figured it was worth a shot.
Also, if anyone in Chicago wants a bass player, I'm itching to play bass in a band again.

779oh my god what a looker. Will you keep the Badass bridge?
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
780Yep! I'm generally into the Badass thing (I have one on my P-bass and also on the aluminum-necked short scale Chris Jury built me.)
Curious how the WRHB balances with that J-pickup near the bridge. If I dig the tone but don't like the hum, I may try to find a humbucking J-bass pickup (I know both Novak and Lollar make them), but we'll see how I feel when it shows up!
