H/H PA Head. Nasty.
H/H amps are my favourite amps.
Yep me too. I rock the H/H IC100L. I used to have a little WEM valve amp, that was nice as well.

i'm in the process of converting my sensui quadrophonic stereo reciever into a guitar amp. it's 220 watts of pure 70's technology. i'm building a patch bay to control the in's and the outs and also convert rca's to 1/4 inch jacks. Then I plan on building a delay on the outs. that way when i play it live i can have left and right on stage and a left and right behind the unsuspecting audience.

I currently have a refurbished (by the current Matamp folk) 1974 Matamp GT120 through an Orange 4x12 with 4 Celestion 30 Watt G12H speakers with the green magnet covers that date to October 1972 as the date of manufacture. Very loud! I'm actually pondering buying a newer master volume Matamp so I can get an overdriven sound without shaking the foundation of my house.
I also am the proud owner of a Univox 1226 head (65 watt) with the 2x12 cabinet. These are the amps with the two tone tolex. These are pretty awesome tube amps that can be had for relatively cheap. I got mine at a local guitar store off a guy from West, VA for $200. The scary thing is the power tubes have GE logos and the preamp tubes have 'Mullard' printed on them so I'm pretty sure the tubes haven't been changed in a LONG time and they're still going. You can also get a short cable and patch the input on the first channel to the second channel just like plexi era Marshalls! I would classify these things as a cross between an early 70s Marshall and a Fender amp.

I have a Sovtek Mig 50 that I play thru either a Marshall 4x10 cab loaded with Celestions or a vertical Peavey 2x12 cab with an Eminence Swamp Thang in the sealed bottom and an Eminence Governor in the open-backed top. I push it with a pair of Keeley-modded TS-9's, a Russian Big Muff RI, and a Shannon OD. I also use a Morley ABY to switch between or combine the two channels (like a Plexi or Bassman, it has Bass and Normal channels).
I also use a Fender Musicmaster Bass amp from the 70's with a Weber California ceramic 12". Very basic tube amp, originally intended as a bass practice amp... 12 watts (2x 6V6), one 12AX7 pre tube, Volume and Tone controls. It's kind of like a little Mesa.
My baby is a 1965 Fender Vibro Champ with a Weber 8" alnico. All-tube, gorgeous tone, wonderful tremolo.
I also have a cheap amp of unknown lineage or manufacture. It's transistor, cheap 12" speaker, on-board tremolo. It's nothing amazing, but it's the right amp for certain things. Sounds great with my (vintage) Danelectro DC-2.

Antero wrote:Here's a question: Why do all those cheap-ass-yet-actually-awesome amps have such AMAZING tremolos?
So true. I just got rid of a few-year-old Vox Cambridge....cheap 30w amp I got for $140. Such great reverb and tremolo. I am missing that right now....not the shitty way it handled gain.

I'm probably wrong, but if I'm not then Traynor would be to Canada what Vox is to the UK.
I don't know a lot about Traynors.
Well, I can see it both ways.
H&H is a suprisingly good solid state amp for a good value, much like Traynors. But Traynor is the most well known amp coming out of canada, so it could be the Vox or Marshall of Canada.
However, being so close to the US, Traynor has been generally overshadowed by american amp makers. It's forgotten in most circles, with the Electrical board being a big exception.

Why is it that Traynor amps are SO fucking hard to find in the UK? I
really want a YBA-1, but there's nae coont in the UK selling one it seems!

Probably because they weren't seen as anything too magnificant. Couple that with being quite heavy, and there's no reason to pay for the expensive shipping over to the UK. Did/does Yorkville even have a UK distributor?
