Huh! You just about made my day, Tommy Alpha. Didn't even know that existed. Much appreciated!

Burun once said something about being so "moony" for Paul Auster that she'd read a cereal box if he wrote the text.

Kim Deal's speaking voice is kinda like that for me. I could listen to her talk about any number of things all day. Not that I have a crush on Ms. Deal, but a good voice is just divine, and she's got one.

Now if only she could sing!

Kim Deal is one in a million, I swear. Her voice on 'Night Of Joy' off the new album is like some ghost angel mermaid from the 1940's. Haunting....

I remember when Nirvana hit and I was loving it. Then I picked up Last Splash. It really obliterated everything from that period.

A couple questions: I know Kim plays a Strat. Is it a Marshall amp? What mic? Always loved that sound, so bassy and direct.

And I seem to be able to pick the songs done by Steve Albini. I could play it 1000 times in a row. So un-hyped. Anyone know if it was the Neotek board?

Such as Mountain Battles. Just picked it up, and I am really trying to like it. I shouldn't have to try this hard. Half-assed is exactly how I'd describe it: 2-3 chord progressions that turn into entire songs, ridiculously repetitive lyrics, and completely forgettable melodies.

This band has always had a very raw sound (even on Last Splash), which is why I like them so much, but it has morphed from raw to just lazy.

They're still one of my favorite bands, but man I'm disappointed.

Give it some time to sink in! I'm just starting to like it; initially I was a little disappointed like you.

Its a great record (save for 1 or 2 tracks). I felt the same way with Title TK and now I feel that album is almost as good as Pod.

Yeah - I'm hoping that will happen as well, and like you, it took some time for me to catch on to Title TK. I haven't completely written off Mountain Battles or anything (far from it), just sort of giving a first impression.

I've been on a real Breeders kick lately in anticipation of this album, and dug around Amazon to pick up the Safari EP. I just love everything from that time - Pod, Last Splash, Safari, the singles for Last Splash have some great b-sides. All of these albums are very melodic, especially some of the stripped down tunes like "Fortunately Gone" and "Doe".

Yeah best period/line up of the band. Its funny to think that the drummer from Slint was in this band...(whoops! just slintlered the thread). Why was he so worried about Slint finding out about his involvement with this band?

PM me your email address. I need to check but I think I have some of the rarer stuff from this period.

Yeah, I never understood this - was he embarrassed about it?

Oh, and you have a PM waiting! Thank you!

Slint knew all about it. He didn't want Slint (the band) to be overshadowed by -- or have to answer for -- the Breeders, just because he was in both bands. That's all. It was out of respect for his bandmates.

hahaha.

You're crushin' on Kim hard.

She sings like Lemmy from Motorhead after a rough day of smoking cigarettes and yelling at his roadies on a 5 hour flight from England to French Canada!

For real though, Kim does have a beautiful voice.

That makes sense, considering a lot of people think the Breeders are a spin-off of the Pixies (which I guess is sort of true and sort of not).

I should be so lucky as to be in two bands that are big enough that anyone cares what my name is!
