I think First Issue is the best thing they ever did.

The bass on "Albatross" makes me queasy. (Simon Reynolds refers to this as the arsequake effect.) How did they do that? I seem to recall something about them having the bass amp facing a wall at close range and recording the sound from further away in the room.

I recently saw a DVD with a segment of the Tomorrow Show in, I think, 1979, with Levene and Lydon. I had forgotten how RIDICULOUSLY, HILARIOUSLY hostile and UTTERLY up their own asses they were. The best moment in recent music history is when that bass comes through your speakers and marks the exact moment all other bands become just other bands.

I try not to take a real hard line on opinions or tastes in music but for fuck's sake...you have to be a real moron, or hard of hearing, to say PIL is crap. Really.

There is a variable which we are going to call "The Rolling Stones Hypothesis".

If a band has been CRAP for longer than they were NOT CRAP, some find it necessary to brand said band with a CRAP vote. It is a common point of discussion whether these bands should be given a NC with Waffle Factor or C with the same.
