Inspired by the D. Boon birthday thread, I have to nominate Double Nickels on the Dime. Every time I put it on, I'm amazed by how incredible it sounds. That record is a sonic achievement.

And I will 68th Marquee Moon, and throw in U.S. Maple Talker to this list as well.

Polvo - I think "Shapes" sounds the best of their albums (Engineer - Bob Weston)

Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic (Dave Fridmann)

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (Tim Friese-Green)

Delgados - The Great Eastern (Dave Fridmann)

The Jesus Lizard/Fugazi/ Slint / Shellac - anything, really.

Fridge - Happiness (Fridge)

Yo La Tengo - Electr-o-pura (Roger Moutenot)

i like some ac/dc albums.

the bass and drums are kind of "meh."

but the guitars are glorious. "livewire" and "jailbreak" in particular.

and "dirty deeds..." in all it's "a little flat" glory.

Dwarves albums all different all great.
most Henry Fiat's Open Sore recordings... something cool about all of them although i have no information on them.
High on fire- blessed black wings
melvins- houdini and stoner
slayer- reign in blood
terrorizer world downfall, THE best grindcore album ever recorded..

Here's a couple for ya:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
This sounds like each & every instrument was recorded with SM-57's with no pop-filter on them.

Any U2 record post-1980's
Can I have some bandwidth & dynamics, please?

These records may have some good songs on them, depending upon your taste, but the aural aesthetic makes me want to gouge my eardrums out with ice-picks.

And not be overly-critical, but I WAS NOT a big fan of the sonic characteristics of any Slint record, even though I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the music itself.

Here is what 'Scar Tissue' from Californication looks like. Gotta love them dynamics!

That made me laugh. Thank you.

Goat - the Jesus Lizard
Metal Box - PIL
Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
Yield - Pearl Jam...say what you want fuckers...I like the way it sounds
In Utero - Nirvana....I was 14..I really liked the way it sounded...it was so diiferent than Nevermind...kind of got me interested in recording ...
what else?....this is off the top of my drunken head right now...I'm sure I could go on and on....pretty obvious choices.....oh well....

Mama Clortho wrote:For me, the Ladradford album Steve did stands out... I only really like the first track, the rest of the album is fine, but the album sounds incredible.

Are Labradford still active?

i'm listening to this right now. a great album through and through. sonically or otherwise.

i believe they have been inactive for some time.

also, the electric guitars on "Salvador Sanchez" - Ghosts of the Great Highway, the last Clann Zu album, first live Songs: Ohia album, and the two Silver Mt. Zion records on my person... all great.
