Good pop songs from the last 30 years

I'll second Baker St, and add Right Down The Line. Sure the guy has a Lennon fixation, but these are catchy songs, and I pretty much hate sax, so that says a lot. The guitar solo at the end of Baker St. is kind blistering.

I'll also second Cruel To Be Kind. Such a good song. Another great guitar solo in that one.
The Nick Lowe penned, Elvis Costello recorded Peace Love and Understanding is fantastic as well.

They don't get much play in the US, but Sloan just cranks out the catchy songs like they are a machine.
The Good In Everyone is quite possibly my favorite 2 minutes of pop ever. All of the elements are there.

I got sick of it in 10 minutes, but when I heard Hey Ya, I was surprised a song that catchy was getting major airplay. I mean, it's just a pop song. They don't play pop songs on the radio anymore, you know?

I loved the Cake song "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" when it first came out. Fun stuff.

Of course, this was before the time I actually saw them at college. When they played my college, they got seriously showed up by the two opening bands (Robbers on High Street - who got drunk on campus before their performance - and Gomez, who were actually really good...their records truly suck in comparison...guess I'm a sucker for three guitars blasting at the same time) and the singer proceeded to compound his mediocre drivel by lecturing us on how lucky we were to have free water. I actually sympathized with the guys in the back who yelled "FREE BIRD!!!" between every song.

I did meet the bassist before the performance, though, and he was a nice guy.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.
