I just decided to stop and I did. It was not easy at first but after many months it is now a breeze. I broke my habits, chewed some gum, deeply inhaled some second hand smoke and now I am free.
The hardest habits to break were with coffee and alcohol. Since I don't drink that much anyway I just stopped drinking until I was sure I could get though a night out at a bar without wanting to smoke. If I got stressed I took a brisk walk.
For me it was all about gaining control of the habit and having my mind win over my body. Sure I still think about it once in awhile but I won't ever go back. I feel too good without it.
How did you quit smoking?
82I made a pact with a friend of mine, that we were both going to quit. We picked a day for the last smoke, and quit that day. After the first week I spoke to my buddy again and found out that he'd never really quit, but i'd been doing well so i didn't go back, and haven't had one in three years.
