I listened to the album. twice. it's a lighter and more low-key album than any of their other releases. i like this.

i'm having a discussion with a friend about this. he says itś just a marketing move. he says all the fans will probably pay for the album, and even some more will pay more than intended for a supposedly free download. this way - he says - they are in some way manipulating the fans making them do what they really want them to do- while they think they are free to pay anything.
also they had a shitload of publicity for doing this.
this vision disturbs me a bit, i dont know if its way too much cynism and cold-blooded observation, but i think that he's right in a way too.

I put in weeks ago for it and declared that I wanted to pay zero dollars for it.

They sent it to me today and listened to it on the ride to work. Total Crap. It's sounds like the stuff that didn't make it onto Hail to the Thief. Not a hit in the group.

i'm really enjoying this album. had already heard a good chunk of it when i saw them last summer. much less overstuffed than the last couple. not crap.
