He would at least be tied with Ruth and within 10 of Aaron by now.

I don't know. He was at 438 through 2000. So, perhaps 800 was a bit lofty, yes.

Regardless, his numbers should certainly be considerably more lofty.

Looking at the list of all-time leaders by the age of 30 -

Alex Rodriguez 464
Ken Griffey 438
Jimmie Foxx 429
Mickey Mantle 404
Eddie Mathews 399
Frank Robinson 373
Mel Ott 369
Andruw Jones 368
Hank Aaron 366
Juan Gonzalez 362

it seems clear that it's not how you start, it's how you finish. Same thing with 300-game winners.

The guy across the street was the recipient of a 2007 World Championship ring yesterday. Came in a nice wood box with an etched window. I got to see, touch and wear it.

It was really heavy. 41 diamonds. Several rubies. A saphire. White gold. Guy's name is even on it.

With Baltimore's 32nd win, I think it's safe to say they won't lose the 100 games they were expected to lose.

The only way that this is a good thing for Orioles fans is if the team sells high on their veteran players before the trade deadline.

Braves fan here. My hat's off to the Cubs...it looks like you guys have everything going in sync right now...pitching, defense, hitting...all the simple tools needed to rock all over an aging, injured assemblage of talent like the Bravos.

Time to trade Tex for a young starter or a proven closer and a first baseman.

Oh well...

They really don't have any high-price vets, except for Melvin Mora. I don't know how much of a market there is for him.

The O's are on the right track, though. And I think they got an absolute steal, getting Adam Jones for Bedard.

300 wins is an impressive, especially these days. I can't even think of many young pitchers playing right now that could get to that milestone. Sabathia? Maybe.

Obsessive Braves fan here as well...I concur about Tex. As much as I like the guy, he is not worth the dough and we could spend that money wiser elsewhere.

I am rather surprised that this thread has no mention of Chipper....wheres the love!?

I don't really know that they are on the right track. Despite their good start, they're only a half-game away from last place. Hopefully management recognizes that they're years away from contending and moves every veteran and arbitration-eligible player for what they can get.

At least he's no Andruw Jones. Dammit.
