Adam I wrote:I know nobody else finds this story as hilariously pathetic as me, but there is more (to me) hilarity to be had!

Having threatened much arse-kicking at length, called a child a 'faggot' and girl-thrown a bottle/shoe at the child while the child was being held by security, Josh Hommes declares himself 'never too sick to fight'!

A tool, yes. But a hilarious tool. More of this please.

So now I saw it. Hilarious, yes!
I might be giving him the benefit of doubt as I really like two first QOTSA albums, but "I'm never too sick to fight" sounds sarcastic. Like, he knows that he is a big, tall dude who is badmouthing a 12 year old, and that doesn't make him look very tough at all.
AND
"Your miserable fucking cunt, go back to your mom's house you 12 year old dickless fucking turd". Aside from using word "fucking" twice, that is an A-grade line.

I don't know, I think it must a society thing. I would be shocked if anyone would hit that kid because of what Josh Homme said. It was pretty funny, people laughed about it, the next song was 'No-one fucking knows'. I don't think there is nothing more to it, and I highly doubt anyone attending the festival thought otherwise.

And bringing the Roskilde tragedy is a complete miss. It had nothing to do with what band did, aside from playing their songs.

His fault.

Ok, but I guess what I was asking is who's fault is when this kid winds up in a coma from random fans stomping him?

1. From the evidence, this terrible tragedy didn't even come close to happening.

2. In this hypothetical universe, it would be the fault of whoever stomped the kid to death, that he got stomped to death.

Of course, I agree that he opened the door to it but the singer could have easily just told security to simply eject him instead going on a kill-crazy rant. I think it was really irresponsible how he handled it.

Nothing happened. This thing, essentially, is nothing.

If anything, I think it's:

a) kind of inadvisable to ask people not to throw things at you, as it will invite such behavior, and

b) kind of dumb that 'faggot' and so forth is the best the guy can do when he's trying to dress someone down.

c) kind of weird to act all manly and tough when you're many yards away from being able to actually touch anybody.

But yelling at the kid and throwing a water bottle at him, OK, sure. Take your licks, such as they are. He threw a shoe at you and shit. Maybe it will make you feel better to yell at him and throw a water bottle at him.

I once called a guy out from stage who was being an idiot and yelling a lot all through a show. He was an Everclear fan who was there to see Everclear.

I told him to meet me by the side of the stage afterwards so I could knock his teeth in.

I did this without laying eyes on him, which is inadvisable.

I was relieved to find that no one was waiting for me after we got done.

Dumb move. But I am not a fighting man by any stretch. Perhaps Josh Homme is a fighting man.

The best reactions to audience displeasure are those that absorb it. I instantly respect anyone I see do this.

The complete miss is on your end. I didn't say that Pearl Jam had anything to do with that tragedy. I'm simply pointing out that it is not a "hypothetical universe" in which people die at big rock concerts. In the second link, the band surely had something to do with the death although I wouldn't hold them to be more accountable that the promoters of the event.

I've seen people get beaten into bloody submission at these things and the performers joke about and even encourage it. This one almost started it.

How quickly could that change given the setting? Cmon. Been to a regular rock fest lately (like, in a decade)?

The center of attention and admiration nearly taunting people to do so should accept no blame? Did you watch the video? As jockohomo as this singer looks and sounds, it's clear that he's really pissed. Could easily inspire others to act on his words.

No one in recent memory gave much thought to pyrotechnics in clubs before that hair band singed that place in Rhode Island either. Just part of the show.

And I didn't say that you did. But I said that you brought it up here, which you did, and that it has nothing to do with Josh Homme singling that kid from the crowd (btw, it looks to me he that he realized that this is a kid after security guys started to take him away. And he was quite a bit older than 12, which it makes it a bit less hilarious). Limp Bizkit is indeed guilty of urging people to mosh at a rock gig. So? It is still miles away from this kid being in danger of being stomped to death by angry QOTSA fans.

And after watching video Itchy posted, I still fail to see how the kid was in threat of anything else than being thrown out from the festival, which is exactly what happened.

Chain of events:
A kid throws a shoe at Josh Homme (and misses, which also takes something away from the story, and it is a bit disappointing, even though I don't want Josh Homme to be hit with a shoe).
Josh Homme launches a tirade against him
Security guys pick him up
Josh Homme makes the remark about him being 12
Dude is taken away by the security guys.
QOTSA play another song.

Is this enough to set Internet on fire these days?

Sure it does. You don't think that what a performer has to say on stage can cause a crowd surge, which is the very thing responsible for the PJ and LB deaths? I was in one when I was probably a bit younger than that kid and besides about 60 seconds of air all I lost were my shoes, ripped from my feet.

I actually brought it up to illustrate that a big rock fest is not some utopia where people don't get killed, paralyzed, burnt to a crisp, or raped.

In hindsight, sure. I'm sure that Altamont was shaping up to be a 'killer' time as well before the show also. Different time, different era, different crowd? Well, kids kill other kids b/c they are 'goth' or 'emo' now...or so I've read.

It's clear to me how this could have turned out very, very differently. Seriously, I'd like to be convinced otherwise. I used to enjoy these big events at times. My first reaction is that it could have turned out much uglier than threatening a teenager and calling him a faggot. (yes, that part is still kinda funny.)
