A friend passed this on from the rather mean but sometimes funny Holy Moly:

Don't Sit So Close To Him
Everyone loves Sting. You know, like they love Like cancer, HIV and malaria. Perhaps the only man to have been more interesting as a teacher than a rock star, the most self-satisfied man on the planet often resembles a cat with a cream-flavoured arsehole. Twenty years of solitary confinement on Devil's Island nearly drove Papillion mad, but Sting would have emerged with a broad smug grin and several ideas for concept albums about himself.

This fact was sharply brought into focus for a mole's friend who had the misfortune to share a table with the self-basting bassist ("Mmmm, turn me over, mmm, I'm nearly done...") over Christmas.

The meal was pleasant. Sting was almost bearable, his wife was chatty and the small talk was progressing well. Until Sting reached into his jacket, produced his iPod and proceeded to listen to music whilst the mortals chatted amongst themselves. Naturally, the mole's friend was rather surprised and leaned over to Trudi to check whether someone had inadvertently insulted the great man.

To her credit, Trudi was forthright and brutally honest.
"He always does it. He's a fucking liability." Then leaning further in and covering her mouth with her hand, whispered...

"The worst thing is... he's listening to his own fucking music."

Police are playing tonight on the Grammys.

For the first time in I can't remember how many years, I am actually going to sit and watch them, just so I can gauge if the Police are going to be any good on their reunion tour...

For which there is a press conference at 2pm tomorrow (Monday) which will be televised on VH-1.

So I tivo'd the Grammys. It turns out that they opened the show, so I didn't have to seek out their perfomance. It also turns out that the reformed Police.....not so good.

They played Roxanne. Sting can't hit the notes anymore, the chorus sounds horrible because of this. Then they did this bridge in the middle where Copeland kept time and they sort fiddled with their instruments and Sting scatted the lyrics a bit.

I can't prove it, but I really don't think Sting was playing.

Glad I missed it.

I don't think Sting ever played.

Sting was playing. The bass was actually quite good for what this song requires. His tone was pretty fucking mean, from how it sounded on my teevee+stereo speakers.

I didn't notice any ill with the vocals. Copeland did rush the beat quite a bit at one point, which was interesting.

NOT CRAP

I thought it was pretty good. If you had seen The Police in their prime, Sting could hardly ever hit the high notes. He strained to reach them and it was part of the charm.

Fuckin' Andy Summers is 64! Looks good, plays great still.
