This is true. I don't get "rock n roll". I like rock. Rock n' roll is like Bill Hailey and the Comets or Sha Na Na. Hang on sloopy!

As for the Sex Pistols, I liked it better when Peter Hammill did that sound. Really, only 3 songs on that PH album are punk. PH has the good sense to have intra-diversity of material on his albums. He was an influence on Bowie, The Fall, The Sex Pistols, and it's so sad that most people don't even know it. He doesn't care. He's such an existentialist, even a heart attack didn't delay the release of his 30th (or so) solo album.

I get rock. I don't get 3 chord punk. I understand rock n' roll and appeciate it, but I'm not a big fan of "rock around the clock".

At the start of this thread I was thinking "Hmm, I've never heard this dudes music, I think I'll check it out."

Now I dont think I ever want to hear it.

Maybe we really should start enforcing the rule whereby you cant explain your vote.

It really does make sense why you wouldn't want to check out Zappa now... Your values seem antithetical to free speech. Zappa was a champion of free speech.

No seriously. I do like. I'm not just saying that to slump your record sales in England.

kick ass.

Fetching avatar you've got there, Wernehm. Looks like I'm talking to myself. Usually right most of the time.

Yeah, I was reading some of WZ's posts, and I'm like - WTF?! I'm all about free speech and everything, but I think there should be a "no identical avatars" rule. I rely on those guys to tell me whom I'm reading! It's an issue of practicality, really. The only reason to copy someone's avatar is to cause confusion, or because you just love it so much. The first one is just malicious; the second isn't good either. If you love it, put it in your sig.

Again, getting a little carried away, here. I see what you're trying to do, but just by saying something over and over does not make it true. Peter Hammill may have written some songs that sound like they may have been precursors to punk rock, but most of that argument is after the fact postulating. The real story of punk has been written again and again, and it does not involve PH.

Back to the Zappa argument!
