You Follow Me is great. I loved The Blackened Air and liked Run to Ruin but I thought part of the charm of the last one and this LP is the space allowed for the songs to breathe--you can really hear her voice and guitar perfectly, the drums are loud/present. Of course I would expect no less from Albini, but recording-wise, I liked these ones the best.

Jim White is (bear with me here) sort of like a free form jazz drummer. He doesn't follow the rhythm as much as create his own style to fit the mood. Great player.

I'm a Dogs man, myself. That recording was pretty important in getting me through the first couple of weeks after my father's death.

Picked up Dogs today. Haven't checked it out yet--I'm not finished with The Blackened Air, which sounded perfect last night riding around Louisville on the first bearable night in weeks.

They're all great.

Dogs is the straightest--I remember the first time I heard it. It completely turned my head around.

It was at John Loder's studio--Steve was sequencing it before we all went in to master our respective records. I think it was Dogs, Lifestyle by Silkworm, and 1000 Hurts all in the same session. Not a bad day's work for Abbey Road!

Anyway, I had just met Nina and Kennan, both of whom I love, and finding out that her music was so wondrous was just a very sweet and memorable experience.

My favorite may be Run to Ruin, which is the strangest, I think. That's not why it's my favorite--just an incidental fact.

At the last ATP, Nina Nastasia was sitting in the next seat to me watching Joanna Newsom. I spent most of the performance looking at Nina instead of the stage. I was contemplating telling her how much I loved her music, but I didn't. I felt like a creep.

I'm a bit surprised. I tolerated Joanna Newsom for about two songs in the immediate aftermath of the Ys. hype parade and then walked the fuck out. Nastasia has vision...Newsom is a gimmick through and through (but that's just like...my opinion, man).

I was at that concert to see Smog, and Bill C. did not disappoint.

"Late Night" on the new album is fucking incredible. When it builds and builds at the end, so great.
