Plus, it's a lot cheaper and TONS easier to work with.I love BBD delays, I kinda wanna go to bed with the Malekko Ekko 616. But really, a lot of that is Pavlovian. We like analog because it sounds better. BUT IF IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY SOUND ANY BETTER, there's no reason to pay a premium. The CoolAudio chips they're making on the cheap for Behringer are fine, but they're real bucket brigade analog delay chips which, truthfully, don't sound better than a good PT2399 circuit. So, it's like, which snobbery wins out? Your anti-digital snobbery or your anti-Behringer snobbery? Raa wrote:Dr Tony Balls wrote:Raa wrote:Dr Tony Balls wrote:HA. Knock yer socks off: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thetonyballs/albumsThank you! This is fantastic. Have you ever built a reverb unit? What would something like that run for?Depends what you mean. Reverb pedal or standalone tube reverb like the old Fender ones?Standalone like the Fender ones. With something like the Stage Center reverb, you'd probably have to pay more in both parts and labor for making the cabinet than building the circuit. Dead simple, but would probably need some tweaks to get it just right. As most here are probably aware, there are things like the Sole Mate and Little Lanilei, small spring tanks in like 8x4 metal enclosures, used as pedals. I haven't been pleased with them. I bet there's a decent middle ground to be found; something smaller and a bit more convenient than a full Fender-sized unit, but more tuneful than the existing spring pedals. Doctor, would you care to invent one?

I think I'm going to have to figure out exactly what sound I'm going for, and then save up for a custom Balls amp of some sort. I don't think I could ever sell my Orange as I'm quite attached to it and it does its thing really well. But not even the greatness of the Orange will get rid of that little voice in my head telling me that what I really want/need for the stuff I play is a JTM-45/tweed Bassman type of circuit.Closest I ever got to either was a YBA-1, and I regret selling that amp almost every single day.

Theyre more akin to later Marshalls like the 1987 and 1986.

Well....the waters are a little muddy here but I'll try to note the differences stating that the circuits are very similar.Bassman:Tube rectificationShared V1 820R/250uF cathode12AY7 in V15881 output tubesNo bright capJTM 45:Tube rectificationShared V1 820R/250uF cathode12AX7 in V1KT66 output tubesBright CapMig 50:Solid state rectificationSplit V1 cathode with different values12AX7 in V15881 output tubesNo bright CapSo going from Bassman to JTM45, the JTM45 is gonna have the same sag caused by the tube rectifier, but its gonna be a little bit more gainy dues to the 12AX7 in V1 and the bright cap (on the bright channel). Its also gonna be a bit more midrange-y due to the flatter frequency response of the KT66s. Comparing the mig-50 you'll get the added gain from the 12AX7, but not quite as much as a JTM45 because no bright cap and larger cathode resistors. You'll also get the 5881 sound of the bassman, but most importantly you'll lose the tube rectifier sag, which i;d consider integral to the sound of a bassman/jtm45.Also the Mig 60 and Mig 100 are clones of the master volume Marshalls (the 2203, 2204 etc). Theyre what people refer to as JCM 800s, even though that is a misleading name.
