Decent Dutch/English folk horror trip. The scenery and atmosphere is amazing due to the protagonists living at the edge of a peat bog. Proper horror. Intense from the jump. Bit of a shift in tone threw me off in the middle, but it got back there. Recommended. Not the best of this type, but it's supremely watchable if'n you're looking to get scared.
I enjoyed this!

^ it was really good. The opening sequence was intense. I want the overall aesthetic of a horror film to beckon and assault and, boy howdy did it ever. From the flora of the bog to the actual physical assault. The ending took a second to sink in, but once it did I was right levelled. The CGI was also tasteful and kept me engaged.

This was decent, but, holy shit, the ending was unsatisfying. Like, it just stopped and you're like wtf? Late 70's low-budget flick about killer acid. It's an entertaining watch with a couple of intense scenes and a bunch of actors you've seen elsewhere.

A sweet documentary/found-footage movie with a ton of atmosphere, and a refreshing lack of cheap jump-scares.

A quick search reveals the whole thing (including subtitles) is currently up on YouTube, so have at it.

I watched this for the second time a few weeks ago. Surreal and unsettling imagery in that one.

Just tried watching May The Devil Take You Too out of Indonesia. Didn't see the first one. Didn't finish this one. Maybe another time as there are some cool parts, but it wasn't keeping me engaged. Shame because I dig its director, Timo Tjahjanto. I was basically bidding time til nightfall because I'm interested in watching Sator[/i, but will probably be asleep by then.

Went through the thread earlier and I enjoyed reading everyone's picks. Reminded me of films I've been meaning to check out.

Been looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. A tense and disturbing Norwegian chiller about four very young children, outcasts in their own right, who realize they have special powers. As a horror fan I don't cotton to giving away specific scenes as the viewer's responsiveness should be unguarded, but it needs to be stated outright that there is one revolting sequence involving abuse towards a cat, made even more revolting that it is done by a child. Horrific. Even though the film is deliberately paced, it holds nothing back. The quiet spaces are unnerving and the cinematography is surreal and expansive. Eskil Vogt, the director, co-wrote a film I shared a few pages back titled Thelma which is also quite enjoyable and shares the same themes.

Incredible performances from the four child actors. Highly recommended.

Took both Last Shift, and The Houses October Built for another spin in last night's double-feature. Forgot how good both are, but the suspension of disbelief on the former really tests your limits. Excellent scares, suspense, and make-up, but any normal person would've booked it out of that police station within the first half-hour. She had so many opportunities to say: ABSOLUTELY NOT FUCK THIS SHIT I RESIGN and walk out the door. I get that she was a rookie cop who felt she had to prove herself in her shitty-ass career, but there comes a time when self-preservation should take hold. It also hit me that Ari Aster uses the same King of Hell, Paymon/Paimon, in Hereditary.

As for THOB it has that same haunt energy as Hell House LLC with the exception of instead of supernatural ghouls they are human. Good found footage device with using real haunts instead of fake ones. I'm afraid of haunts. I cry. Never know what type of backwoods billhilly wackos are employed therein. There also were multiple opportunities for them to say ABSOLUTELY NOT FUCK THIS SHIT WE'RE GOING HOME, but nah. "Oh this is all just part of the haunt! Strangers sneaking into our RV, recording us while we sleep, and posting it online!" I began to feel a deep sadness for the characters who slowly begin to realize they are fucked, especially that fuzzy little man-peach.

sometimes you just want to get scared.

If you’ve every wanted a live action version of Katsuhiro Otomo‘s Domu: A Child's Dream you need to see this. The location and feel is very similar, and there is one scene that is lifted directly. Really liked this film.

^ thank you very much for the recommendation!

Not sure if anyone has seen the original Terrifier but its sequel is on the horizon and I'm low-key psyched wondering just how Art is going to top his infamous kill from the first. That movie is just so fucked.

I'm a supernatural, ghost, haunting guy all the way, but can appreciate a deviant slasher flick that doesn't give a fuck.

Also on deck is the americanized Goodnight Mommy. I'd see it if I can somehow coax Prime into giving me a free trial again. Won't be as great as the original, that I can guarantee. For starters, Naomi Watts' bandages look like a face mask from Sephora.

Rebooting The Strangers is a terrible idea. Expanding the universe would behoove creating a traumatic backstory predicated upon the three unidentifiable strangers which would negate their aimless brutality - sometimes evil is just evil, and it comes for you.
