I have been playing direct so I want to see if the preamp will make a diff. I have a couple of actual amps to try but this concept kinda has to be like SunnO)))/MBV loud to bring out the nuance and since I’m just a 49 year old rando the doomsynth drone already elicits a 97% eye roll even among friends but that’s where I’m at ATM. You can see my setup in the pedalboards thread.
No eyerolls here, just swooning, heart-shaped peepers. I love your experiments.

I bought this kit a while ago and it's still sitting on a shelf begging me to be built. Much like you, the idea was to stack it with a chain of overdrives and distortions for cascading sheets of unlistenable noise.

And a question.

Has anyone used something like a Mesa Boogie Cabclone?

I’ve got a Mesa Mark I sitting under the bed and I’ve seen CabClones pretty cheaply on Reverb. Is this a good option if I have a great amp head but zero chance of switching it on in an apartment without my neighbours killing me.

STL did a big update on Tonehub and added a tracer. since I own tonehub I was able to get the tracer for 70$.
so I traced my ENGL metal master (yeah, cheesy name but nice little amp) in my home studio. the rendering took about an hour, but holy shit does it work great.
hard to tell the difference between the actual recording (used the Heiserman Type 19 mic) and the same D.I. guitar through the plugin!

now I want to trace my bass amp!

Haven't used the cabclone but I swear by these:

$120. I have one on an old Mesa Studio .22 and a new Mark 5, need to get another one for my Deluxe Reverb. I have the amps at, like, conversational level, you can hear the acoustic strumming of the strings. Amps still sound killer. I record the line output and use a speaker IR. Haven't given amp sims a second thought since getting these.

It’s cool that it worked out like that. That mic does it’s own thing really well. I used the Type 19 on a guitar amp a feet or so back for the first time the other day and the color of the mic was striking when compared to the close mic’d ribbon that was on the same amp. Together it created a 3rd sound that would have fit right in on an old record. I used it for a really special sort of Television/R&B upstroke sound that is kind of easier said than done but I know that mic can do all sorts of stuff.

I like the Heiserman mic a lot. Would not use it on a session with the whole band as it would record a lot of crosstalk from other sources. But when recording a single amp it sounds fantastic and has a bass response that’s better than any other mic I own.

Thanks! I’ve seen these around so good to hear a positive review. Can you plug in without a cab? I actually don’t have one at the moment.
