llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2024 4:04 pm That price is obviously insane but I get weak for this ugly ass guitar.
Weird. Unless there's some sort of funnel inside those tubes down at the end, I hope the owner never has to change strings.
That is ... something all right. Would be interesting.
Re string changes, one of the photos shows slots in the ends of the "pipes" which come up from the underside, so probably no issues with string change.
yep, absolutely right - same photo, close inspection shows what you're talking about because I did not zoom in enough. That b string looked like there was just a single hole. I just dismissed it as being a home brew/prototype where weird quirks like that are more normalized.

Randall Steel Man 500

I'm tempted just from the name. By the knob and slider setting, looks like someone was trying to make it chug.

Worth it?
Steel pickups are super hot, like around 20k, so the amps they use are usually high powered clean things even if the sound doesn’t always come across exactly like that - see Lloyd Green’s Sweetheart Of The Rodeo sound. That’s a big Twin w/ 2x15 JBLs, but its got a little bit of a crunch in a weird way. That big amp w/ the hot pickup and a volume pedal you get that ‘angels singing’ effect, though other regular guitar amps sound cool too.

I use a big ass Super Reverb as a pedal steel practice amp in the house and it sounds great, whereas with regular guitar that amp definitely wants to be in a big room

That Randall could sound cool, it could also sound like you’ve plugged a guitar into a high powered guitar amp that is designed for a different instrument. $300 is a fair price for that amp, I would just be prepared for it to be relatively big and heavy and might be likely to sit for long periods of time.
