They were the worst, most pretentious, most oblivious, and most boring thing I have ever seen. They were not listened to so much as endured. They ended their set (in which they were OPENING for other bands) by trashing the shit out of the stage, posing a lot, and chanting THE NAME OF THEIR BAND incessantly into the microphone.

I can say without shame or regret that upon seeing this show, I immediately ceased talking to every single friend who had told me to go and see them because they put on such an "explosive" and "chaotic" live show.

The fat, ugly, sucker-faced drummer switching instruments with the fat, ugly, sucker-faced guitarist while some other wanker recites some poetry to try to convince the ladies he's deep is not a wild live show. Ritualistically and mechanically smashing instruments is not a wild live show.

It was utterly and completely horrible, and also laughable how they were trying to smash their instruments without REALLY smashing them because they don't make enough to trash their shit every night.

Maybe someone here knows the name of this band, It was the band that played immediatly prior to Shellac at the Much Music Fest in columbus in I think June of 2002 or 2003.

In 2nd place would be Kingdom Come in 88 at the Monsters of Rock Festival at the Rubberbowl in Akron Ohio. What ever happened to this Zeppelin wannabe band? Also on the bill was Metallica, Scorpions, Van Halen (with Haggar), and one other but I cant remember who, maybe Judas Priest?

What's worse, when the band is rock-bottom bad because they're fucked up or because the music's bad?

When I was a wee lad of 17 in 1988 I road-tripped to Milwaukee to see Fishbone, and they were just fine, doing a 15-minute version of the Fat Albert theme and all, followed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who did a lot of poetic free-associating and randomly bringing songs to a halt...

And when I was even more of a wee lad, I saw Arlo Guthrie at the Carlton Celebrity Room ("A Touch of Las Vegas in Minnesota"), and all I remember is that, over and over, Mr. Guthrie would wave and wave and eventually stop the eight-or-so-piece band midsong to tell stories that he couldn't quite remember once he started them...

So I guess most of my worst-band experiences involve a wasted frontman stopping the band over and over again in order to talk to the audience, and then doing a bad job of talking.

Correct. I saw them at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre in 2003 supported by Shannon Wright (who was excellent and very rocking indeed) and Mogwai (who introduced themselves as 'just the support band' and were very good after a shaky start).

Trail of The Dead though, were a total shambles, very drunk and barely able to play or sing. They had to be stopped from smashing the guiar amp Mogwai had leant them. It also got really out hand with people slamming and hallf the audience just walking out. The band just seemed to be trying to antagonise everyone who had offended them so badly by buying a ticket to the gig. Twats.

I was at that show! At the Eagles Club President's Room? When it was still the Eagles Club!

I was 15 then. I think that was the first REAL show I ever went to see. I remember Fishbone being quite enjoyable. I thought RHCP blew.....really blew. I remember thinking "these guys are a bunch of assholes...genuine assholes...especially towards women". I did not enjoy seeing a band that were obviously more interested in getting laid than playing music.

If my memory serves me correctly, the opener was Thelonious Monster. Holy shit...now I feel old!

The Blood Brothers. The drummer is awesome, he slammed his skins like no other, but they're not a good live show, they sound even more messy and chaotic live. I saw them 2 years ago.

Bob Mould, interesting enough, played one of the best (metro) and worst (park west) shows i've ever seen.

Not being foolhardy enough to ever pay to see Rush or any facsimile thereof, the worst bands I've ever seen are Boston, Styx, and the Pixies.

That was the case, anyway, until February 22nd. The band that opened for Slint in Louisville--Aerial Pink Something-or-other--is by far the most atrocious music I've ever seen performed. Truly horrible. Indescribably so.
