But I'm damned if I'm trawling through the 977 threads that come up when you put the word 'suck' into the search function. If you can find it though, it's a goodie.

I think I found what you're referencing:

Is that the one?

I'm afraid not cwileyriser. The one I'm referring to had an entry by Steve, and one of his was something like "you guys sure looked like you were having fun up there..."

Aw, man, does anyone know how to use the search function better than me? A sticky might help if so!

johnnyshape wrote:I am going to add a 'nice' anecdote to this list, about the time my band were lucky enough to open for Fugazi. I know stories are legion about their conduct and geniality; this one's mine.

It's 11pm, and we are in the wings with our jaws on the floor watching Fugazi finish their hurricane-force set. Guy Picciotto is on the deck, bathed in sweat, wrapped in mic cable doing his electroshock therapy thing.
They finish and walk off into the wings. About ten seconds later, Guy comes up to me and our singer standing by our gear, and says: "Hey. Thanks so much for playing. Do you need a hand with your gear? Where's your van? I'll give you a hand." We barely get the chance to reply when he says "Oh sorry, we're doing an encore." He dives back on stage for two songs with the crazy freak dance setting on full. 2000 people go ape. They finish for good, and fifteen seconds later Ian and Guy, calm and pleasant as you like, are helping us load out. I also remember each one of them making sure they shook hands and introduced themselves individually to everyone in our band.

This incident caused me to re-think my behaviour at shows and on tour. Extraordinary band, extraordinary people.

what a great story. thanks for sharing.

Chapter Two, I think this is what you're looking for. Mayfair's (who I totally forgot to see with Archer Pruitt last night. Shit!) "when bad bands happen to good people" thing is classic.

Polite things you say to your friends' bands after sucking.

i must say that i was fucking nervous as hell opening for the angels of light. i heard nightmare stories about michael gira's behavior and was generally scared. he turned out to be the absolute opposite. extremely nice and generous. he thanked us for playing and he even autographed my vinyl copy of "public castration is a good idea"

ive never had to deal with any assholes but some of the people on the drag city roster are a bit hard to have conversations with...real introverted...

Yeah, but he was really only with them for an album and a half. You made it sound like they were breaking up.

Someone asked about Godspeed You Blackened Catfish on the other thread. I think Dianogah would agree with me on the following:

No matter how grand their aspirations, the first band on a bill should probably not start 45min late. I mean 'for real' late, not after-the-doors-open late.

And a 90min set is too long.

Especially when they have to be asked to stop and their breakdown time is about half an hour.

I don't want to tell tales out of school, and it's feasible certain people wouldn't want to be involved in the tale-telling, so I won't go into the myriad other shitty things I know them to have done

I agree with you. Also, they are just not very friendly. Our drummer tried to engage a few of them in hockey talk (the man loves hockey) and they said something like "You are american...you can not like hockey." Then they walked off. Did I just tell a tale out of school?

We did this? Wow, we are really nice. When was this?

I think to tell a tale out of school, you must tell tales that do not involve you directly and betray a confidence in some way.

I doubt your drummer would mind, so I think you did not tell a tale out of school.

I think it was the last show of the longest tour we did together, where we borrowed half your stuff b/c our van was stuck in Butte, MT.

Andy had steam coming out of his ears by the time you started, so maybe you were afraid of 'the fury.'
