"Sherman City" by Lifter Puller.
And I can't really explain why. It sounds like if Archers of Loaf covered an old Rolling Stones song and it came out way better than any of either bands' songs. The chunky, awkward playing hits this perfect rock groove. The lyrics are characteristically Craig Finn's, but the phrasing is classic sounding.
A close second would be Slint's "Good Morning, Captain", which I think is a perfect song. I still get chills at the end of it. But I don't love it as much as "Sherman City."

-'Yer Blues' - the beatles
-'Reality Breakdown' - no trend
-'Jesus & Tequila' - the minutemen
or
-'skin drips' - scratch acid.
jeez, maybe it is just anything by the minutemen. I'm not sure.
Nice!
