What a great time. There were seven of us, and we got the sounds right thanks to two MiniMoogs and a Polymoog.
I'm already looking forward to next year.

awesome. how's paul and cheetie? when are BoA coming back to RVA?
Paul was great. Cheetie wasn't there. The other owners, Steve Popson and Ben Barwick were there. Steve was running things with Paul, and Ben did Steve Miller band along with members of many local bands, including the Rosebuds. I don't like Steve Miller, but they were great.
Paul and Cheetie (and I assume most of Birds of Avalon) go on tonight. I'll tell you who they end up doing tomorrow. They always do a great job. I've seen them do Alice Cooper Group, The Damned, and Devo.

Messerschmidt Pilot's Severed Hand - Billy Childish
Friends & Neighbors - Ornette Coleman
While I wasn't Looking - Tripod Jimmie
Naavy, Non-Alignment Pact - Pere Ubu
Winter - The Fall
Fun Fun Fun - The Big Boys (the weekend after Biscuit died)
She's Got Everything - the Kinks
More Than Good - MX80
Probably some others in there that I don't remember. I'm particularly proud or the Kinks cover. During a noisy section of an already dischordant song, clearly descending into chaos, the bass player would start playing the bass part, then the drums would come in with him, then the drummer would start singing the "do-do-do" part, and finally the guitar would lock in and we'd be off on a trip to pop magestry. Then, rather than play the song all the way out with the dorky spanish guitar crap, we'd let it fall apart into awful noise and swing back into the other song. The only night we did that live we'd already cleared the room except for a Shriner and the bar staff. No, I'm not making that up. For that one moment the white-belt-and-tattoo-clad bartender liked what we were doing. And you could see the tears forming when it went back into noise.

I'm going to add a song I have never been involved in covering (because I never had the right kind of musicians to do it):
Rocky Top - Buck Owens and His Buckaroos.

DrAwkward wrote:Let's see...
Prince - "Sign o' the Times" and "Kiss"
Stevie Wonder - "Uptight (Everything's Allright)"
Takako Minekawa - "Spin Spider Spin"
Modern Machines - "Ay, Paisano!"
Big Black - "Sleep!"
Go-Gos - "We Got the Beat"
Mission of Burma - "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate"
and most recently, Joan Jett/Gary Glitter - "Do Ya Wanna Touch Me?"
What did the Pop Machine do for our half-assed Poster Children tribute? "Love"? I forgot about that one as well. We stumbled through "Dream Small."
"Do you know who the first punk rock band was?"
"? and the mysterians?"
"NO! The WHO!!!"

Very very young:
Far too embarrassing to mention
Very young:
Blitzkrieg Bop - The Ramones
Straight Edge - Minor threat (the only time I have played guitar and sung in front of people. There are many reasons it has not happened since.)
Knock Me Down - Naked Raygun
That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate - Mission of Burma
Comprehension - Spoke (local band that no one knows about but meant a lot to me)
Young:
Care - Spoke (they really meant a lot)
Viaduct Removal - Tar
Not Young:
No - Big Boys
Another Minor Threat song and a Cramps song that I was far too drunk to remember
Within the last two years:
Happy Jack - The Who
Starfire - Low
A Kenny Chesney Song (it was a joke to make my brother's girlfriend like him more. It did not work.)
Lay Me Low - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

kerble wrote:I have sent the two covers we (Danger Adventure) did to the gmail account.
1) (En)Joy to the World
2) On Eagles/Wings
we only did the first live. the second was for a compilation that I don't think has seen the light of day. For a band that never really did covers during our six year run, we did choose two songs about Jesus for some reason or another.
Faiz
Kerble, these are absolutely excellent. I could listen to On Eagles Wings all day. Beautiful!
