The trailers for both The Spirit and Watchmen left me unimpressed. CGI ladden Hollywood junk.

The trailer has enough of the visual aesthetic of the comic going for it that I will consider myself hyped.

Part of the problem with 300 was simply that the movie made transparent a lot of the ideological and storytelling flaws of the book.

-

What's funny is that Corgan song was recorded for one of the shitty Batman movies.

Man. Fuck CGI so hard.

Although Doc Manhattan looks alright.

"The Visionary Director of 300". Brilliant.

I'd like to point out that shooting just ended. What the fuck do you guys want for a few weeks of production?

The trailer is in slow-mo because they barely have 30 second of finished film. Slow-mo the nearly finished stuff and you can 1) stretch time, and 2) hide the cgi errors that you'd see in rt.

As for Rorschach's voice - I've always thought of his delivery to be like the robot on Gilligan's Island as delivered by Clint Eastwood. Lifeless, intimidating, and curious.

It's a trailer. Still, I'm full on right now.

Yeah. I thought the CGI looked like shit in the early Iron Man trailers too. And yet, that movie was fucking awesome.

Haven't seen this yet but i'm guessing i will this weekend.

If the film is awesome it's going to be quite a jump from "300" - how will you all justify the sudden improvement on Zach Snyder's part?
I mean, 300 was absurdly bad.

I realize 'justify' is a stupid term and maybe i'm over-thinking this, but i've rarely ever seen directors go from making something as bad as 300 to something as good as i want watchmen to be.

Giant owl ships. A 100-foot tall, glowing, electric blue guy exploding tanks by pointing his finger. City blocks blowing up.

No idea why they'd use CGI.

It only bugs me when it's used gratuitously when a live-action shot would not only be feasible but obviously and clearly a better idea. (I'm looking at you and your bullfrog neck, George Lucas.)

A set on Mars would probably be prohibitively expensive. Though, now that I think about it, a massive squid-monster should be relatively easy to manufacture...

6th Sense -> Unbreakable. From a total bag of shit to a well crafted movie.

Directors learn. Unfortunately for M. Night, he's apparently got a very bad long-term memory.

How was Elf? Was that any good? Didn't Jon Favreau direct that? I didn't see it so i don't know if this is an example of a director doing something absurdly crappy and then turning it around.

I dunno, i'm keeping my Watchmen boner in check for sure. Better to expect crap and be surprised than to expect genius and be crushed.
