Thanks for the tip - I wouldn't have thought of trying a solvent on the drums. I couldn't find any lacquer thinner in the house, but it gave me an idea to use my wife's nail polish remover (acetone based) - it worked like a charm. I had the drum cleaned up and put back together in 2 hours.

There was also paint on the chrome hardware, but I used steel wool to get that & the typical pitting off of it. It looks pretty good now, except for a few gouges I'll never be able to do anything about. I think this thing is from about 1974, so it looks OK for its age...

Which bass drum head would you go with?

That's from a bass players point of view that knows nothing about drums.

I'd go with this one, personally. It's the same logo that's on the badges.

if you want to get tricky, they sell logo decals & stickers at http://www.2112online.com/ludwpart.shtml

Thank you all for the input. I like the Ludwig head on ringo's/optimistic's kits. But my gut says the script logo. It's so cool!

Like a classic car feel.

skatingbasser/VerbsandNouns...I agree...I'm leaning...tipping over...

Someone break the tie!

Go with the more modern one. It's less self-affected. Believe me, that's not a bad thing in this case (and I say that with the utmost respect for this project).
