I must be missing something about the "official" threads.

How and why are they official? What makes the other threads unofficial?

If I will start and "The official Shellac will release their next record in 2 years thread", will Shellac do so? Is this how it works? Or maybe it's the offical part that is confusing me.

"Canonical" might be a better word: in cases where a moderator creates one, they're attempts to consolidate the kinds of things that a lot of people might want to talk about (i.e., The OFFICIAL [date redacted, but it's one we all know] Thread), to prevent unnecessary thread-duplication. In this case, however, it's just K-lop trying to lay claim to authority he doesn't have. Sort of like someone making his own Sh-ll-c t-shirt and calling it "official" because it somehow sounds impressive.

I don't think that's an official Christopher J. McGarvey shirt.
