Recommend me a pair of casual shoes that don't make me look like an asshat. I would be wearing these shoes with other "casual" clothing items such as jeans and shirts that don't button up. I wear size 11 1/2~12 US. My mom seems to think that I need a pair of shoes from Kohl's that are cheap. Their shoes are ugly as hell. Cheers!

There's very few hobbies I'd rather encourage than skateboarding, it teaches a lot of life-lessony things. I'd suggest going down to a real skate shop (like Slam City Skates in London) with your son so you could experience that "world" together and see if it's something he would like to explore. A "real" skateboard will cost considerably more than a toy skateboard but it could be well worth it if it encourages a new serious hobby. You could easily find something adequate online but it would be like getting your first record from iTunes rather than going to a record store.I will second this completely. Even though I never really got "good" at it, I had a ton of fun skating with my friends as a teen. Recently picked up my old deck from my parent's place and want to start shreddin' again. If you have a local skate shop, you should most definitely give them your business over any online retailer. I miss the local bike/skate shop in my old neighborhood dearly and would hate to see other institutions suffer the same fate.

That's awesome. Wish it was I who was 12 and discovering skateboarding for the first time. Skateboarding was the first thing in my life to have really changed my perspective on things that still carries into my life and worldview today. The community exists in its own world. It's open to everybody while simultaneously being completely tied off from the rest of society. Everybody I've met through skateboarding has been solid, from all the friends I made as a kid to all the people I've met later along the way. I feel like a lot of the prejudices that exist in other communities don't really make their way into the skate community. There was a strong sense of camaraderie between skateboarders when I was growing up. I hope its popularization over the years hasn't caused this to diminish. Glad your son is stoked!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to wounded foot and aaronk - your "use your local skate shop" advice was completely spot-on.Me and my son went into central London today, went to Slam City Skates and came back with a complete deck. The guy who served us was great, gave my son loads of stickers, a list of skate-parks etc, and he's come away with a board he really likes, and that he already feels is a massive massive improvement on what he had before. He's really pleased, and we're happy to see him enthusiastic about something active. The shop guy's explanation of how this can be the beginning of something massive, how he can upgrade and customise as he improves, really grabbed his attention. So thanks again, you two. Me and my boy had a great day out today, largely down to your advice. As I type this, I can hear him out in the street on his board.

A music player for Mac. Something simple that doesn't try to arrange my library or anything like that. Also needs to be able to play FLACs, WAVs, etc. I've been using VLC but lately it's been doing this thing where it kind of garbles audio, like it's skipping samples or something. Can't figure out what's wrong with it so I need something new!

Not the best video player for either of my particular platforms. I used to use it as my default for video, but it hangs and glitches all the time. Same on my linux pc. I've tweaked settings and used revo to clean uninstall and reinstall it to no avail. I use the default windows Film and TV now and it's fine.
