Tell me more about that Moon Unit!
One of Frank Zappa's kids. She had a one-off hit in the 80's.
I'm guessing in VCA mode this is a tremolo. In VCF is it a phaser?
Digital Delay and Reverb all in one with a momentary slam switch to dime the repeats and create cacophenous feedback.
More like a tremolo and a tremolo with a filter added. Kinda auto-wah like.tommy wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:05 pm I'm guessing in VCA mode this is a tremolo. In VCF is it a phaser?
So how do you like the gristlizer circuit? I’ve never played one in person. Looks mighty pretty there.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:25 pmMore like a tremolo and a tremolo with a filter added. Heh....I think it's fun and interesting in the hands of someone that wants it, but personally its not for me. I like a pretty standard amp/PSO style tremolo, and if I wanted this type of sound I might pair it with a simple envelope filter. To each their own, though, and i'm happy to make a nice product for folks that want something specific.VaticanShotglass wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 9:23 pmSo how do you like the gristlizer circuit? Nah I really havent messed with that. I have always liked the concept that the Mid-Fi guy used on the Clarinot, though. Basically just putting an envelope on the rate control of a delay so when you dig in it warps a little before going back to normal. Kinda specific but fun. That sort of thing could be applied to about any control on a circuit, just like an auto-wah. A tremolo that speeds up with attack could be fun.VaticanShotglass wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 7:09 pm Yeah. I used to want one, but after getting more into that sort of thing there's just even wilder/weirder stuff available now. Really cool history, and I love throbbing gristle. But I have synth stuff that can do more now.
[Below are some wacky daydreams that probably belong in another thread, but here we are.]
You ever mess with digital "lfo-on-a-chip" type stuff? I'm always taken by what can get crammed into a ship in a bottle or add a modulation source to more conventional circuits, especially if it could be random or an unusual waveform. A tiny random wave vibrato would be neat. I know that's not your game, but I think about this more than I have time to investigate.
That said, modulation that varies with playing dynamics is a cool trick that has a lot of potential for exploration. I think there have been fuzz tremolos out there. I have no idea how they work. I think that Catalinbread Antichthon was a neat idea but too pricey for a single trick (but I'm a deadbeat cheapo). I don't know what method was used to get all that going, but it seems like some real potential in there. I really like the idea of stuff like that which as a sort of additional instrument, especially if the guitar knobs can modulate its functioning. So yeah, totally not your interests, but I think pedal makers have a lot of room to make weirder stuff these days.
