Saw this also - Jason is one of my fav drummers, I'm glad I got to see him as many times as I did. It can't be easy watching your 2 main bands kinda.....do what they've done. I'm not sure what's going on with Sleep, but it seems like Pike is doing well - lots of HoF touring, and the last show I saw them play was phenomenal and Matt looked, played and seemed great, so who knows what that means.....

I saw Neurosis only once, circa Times of Grace, so about 1999 or 2000. It was in the basement of the Eagles Ballroom, whatever they call that venue (I honestly can't remember). I knew nothing about the band beforehand but attended the show at a friend's behest. The music was very good. Since then, I've tended to view doom metal wherein the band members play the same chord over and over kinda passé, in large part because I can do that to good effect without even leaving my room (minus drums and bass of course). And you know, in case you haven't noticed, there's been an excess of Recession Rock over the past 10-15 years, and I've grown cold toward most of it. A lot of newer rock music in general isn't what I necessarily seek out. I don't know if Neurosis is categorized as doom metal per se, by most of its fans, but the sounds at hands were bracing and dynamic. It was proper heavy stuff. Not headache-inducing but elemental, music I'm not predisposed toward but couldn't help but like. I like it in the same way that I like Lungfish, who I've also seen but didn't appreciate at first--it's convincing enough in its worldview and execution to sidestep any hangups related to genre. There's a soundtrack-y composer I started listening to several weeks back, the late Marcus Fjellström, whose music is the same way: not normally my thing but interesting, hard to tune out.

I knew Marcus casually. I love his music. It's a damn shame he's not around.

Oh nice ^^^, will check those out later.

Re: Neurosis, since the same friend who took me to the show mentioned above has indefinitely confiscated the original LP of Times of Grace that I bought for $7.99 at Farwell Music 20+ years ago, I've decided to buy a cheap copy of it on CD today. It's a very good recording by Albini, and I like the song "Belief" a lot. Other people can choose to disregard the band's music, for reasons stated in this thread, but I don't think it's fair to the other members to write it off if I would otherwise like it. It's a tough situation, and I wish them the best, really.

I am no longer a touring musician so I will be selling off most (possibly all) of my equipment and belongings.

I can't stand FB marketplace so I'll be posting up here and on CL. Drums and cymbals, etc up soon.

Midas M32 mixer for sale. DN32-LIVE card installed. Includes road case. Excellent clean condition. Pickup or delivery in the Portland OR area. (sorry no shipping) Serious offers only via DM. (if you know these mixers you know what to offer)

Thanks for reading.

Damn, dude. Very sorry to see you give it all up.
One of my regrets is not buying the heavy metal (brass? Steel?) snare he was selling on here years ago.

I had kinda assumed after that initial statement Neurosis was a done deal.
Small vinyl archive for sale. 113 records," wrote Roeder in his post. "Would like to sell as one lot. (maybe to a record store?) All records in unopened, mint condition. Best offer. To be clear, I have not 'retired' from music. There is nothing on this earth that I would rather do. Life got in the way. One day I hope to jump back in. My personal circumstances prevent me from being able to make that a reality. A career in music is treacherous. I bet everything on it and lost.
Bummer. Sounds like rough times financially.
