I couldn't remember my details so just just re-joined after a long absense. RIP Steve and deep condolances to family and to his friends and colleagues. His music and many (but not all!) of his ethics have had a really big influence on my life. I've only been to America for 3 full days, and it was because Big Black announced they were reforming for the T&G anniversary shows. Shellac shows were part of the circle of life and it's strange to think it won't happen again.
RIP.
Re: Requiescat FM Steve?!
92I just can't... Fuck!
I pretty much owe the success of my business (Tronographic) to Steve, Bob and the forum... He was a beta tester early on when we first were making the Rusty prototypes and offered really helpful notes. Back in the 90s I would call the studio often and badger Steve for advice on microphones and techniques... He always answered the phone and always took the time to answer my questions. He was the person that explained to me how record pressing worked... My band booked a session with him back in 1995, but we had to cancel at the last minute... When I called to tell him, he was gracious and told me not to sweat it and that they could always use a few days off.
Things seem so weird and raw right now... This shit shouldn't happen.
It is a very short list of people that have had that kind indelible influence on me and how I approach music and my work.
You will be seriously, mutherfukin' missed.
RIP FM Steve.

Re: Requiescat FM Steve?!
93I wanted so hard for this news not to be true. Utterly devastating. Man was a total genius.
Re: Requiescat FM Steve?!
94In a terrible irony, I bought my Shellac tickets an hour before this news. How horrible. All the best to everyone.
Re: Requiescat FM Steve?!
96I am deeply sorry to hear the news about Steve. I enjoyed his music, his work as a recording engineer, his writing, and his contributions to this forum. My sympathy to all who knew and loved him.
Re: Requiescat FM Steve?!
97This is not the way I wanted to hear about the new album. Just awful.
I never thought fm steve would be one to leave so much of his donut uneaten. This may take a while to feel real. Condolences to everyone who was close to him.

99I’m shocked and saddened - Steve seemed to be one of those folks who was a catalyst - a driving force who got things done for the pleasure and curiosity of it. We are all richer for his work and vision - to say he will be missed seems stupidly inadequate . Thanks for everything Steve
