92I really liked Tom Morello's account of RATM playing SNL in the recent SNL music documentary.
"Whatever happened to that album?"

We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.
Re: Rage Against the Machine
94Tom Morello has me scratching my head. He identifies as a socialist and espouses leftist beliefs on a surface level, but manages to maintain a friendship with Trump-worshipping admitted pedophile and draft-dodging pants-crapper Ted Nugent. Now I can see trying to "reach across the aisle" and all that, and I can see wanting to save the soul of your childhood hero, but Ted is never going to change, and he's already committed unforgivable crimes against humanity. But I never heard Tom say that's what he's trying to do, and I never heard him address the kiddy fiddling. What I did hear him say in his own defense was that in his adolescence, he learned about sex through Nugent's lyrics, citing "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" as sources of this enlightenment. If Morello is still so invested in his adolescent sexuality that he can overlook all the truly vile things about the Nuge, then I have no use for Tom Morello. I haven't put a dime in his pocket since 1994 so that's no loss there for either of us.
I will always enjoy their first album, but ultimately RATM will to me always be that alternative guy in high school whose sentiments I essentially agree with but who is too performatively loud about his beliefs and who you maybe can't trust around your girlfriend.

Re: Rage Against the Machine
96Morello's guitar playing is definitely unique and creative, but overall the band is mostly nu-metal garbage.
As for their politics, they seem pretty baseline left-leaning liberal. I find it exceedingly hard to take Morello seriously when he unabashedly pals around with nazi pedophile Ted Nugent.
CRAP.

Re: Rage Against the Machine
97Apologies in advance, since this has nothing to do with RATM (crap, WF I thought the 1st album was pretty good when it came out & I was 11)(although, it also doesn't have anything to do with BC or the SPs) but my particular brain disorder read the quoted sentence and immediately went to Dick Clark saying "Captain Beefheart, here's what you're talking about".
