Just after we placed our order, I saw a BIG FUCKING RAT scurry out from the kitchen area and underneath a big soft drink cooler across the aisle from our booth. After a few moments of "holy crap did that really happen what the fuck," I went up and cancelled the order and walked down to Kuma's.
Doesn't every restaurant pretty much have vermin? Have we learned nothing from "Ratatouille?"

Ok, crossing Mr. Pollo off the list of places I will be eating at ever again.
Go to Brasa Roja on Montrose, same idea but much better and cleaner.

So far, this is not a great birthday - though a test did get canceled today, which was pretty great.
However, thanks very, very much for all the birthday wishes, PRF'ers - they were really nice and fun and made me laugh and feel appreciated.

I'm cleaning up data, as that's what they pay me for. Apparently there's a person in Canada named Shinah Butt. Great name.

just went out for a beer & burger & was surprised to see a city workcrew guy with a flame thrower burning weeds around poles on the sidewalk. he had some of the ghetto kids, like the seven year olds, jumping over the flames & one of them pushing the little cart with the gas tank. wtf?
pre-emptive strike: no german/gas jökes, 'kay?

What did you see at Mr Pollo that caused this sudden change of opinion?

Yeah, my girlfriend said that the only place she's actually seen a rat in a restaurant before was when she was teaching English in China years ago. This was the first time I've seen one. Roaches, ants, sure. But never a big ol' rat. We've both been to plenty of dives and holes in the wall, too.
I'm sure I've eaten at plenty of places that had rat problems, but ignorance is bliss when they aren't running out into the front of the place.
This incident reminds me of when I used to work at a drug store in my hometown when I was a teenager, and one day a bunch of guys wearing aprons and shirts embroidered with the logo of the restaurant on the other side of the building quickly ran in and bought a bunch of cans of roach spray. They didn't have to ask where it was located--it seemed like it wasn't the first time. I decided never to go to that place.
I'll have to check out Brasa Roja. Thanks, 'sup!

The discomfort of going to work today was only tempered slightly by the fact they are filming
this movie on the street where I work.
I was grateful that I needed to go to the copy place, so I could walk by the set and see if I could catch a glimpse of what was going on. I admired the lighting setup (didn't know you could use Kinoflo outside) but didn't see any of the actors. And had I known both Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti were in it, I would have stuck around.
I still feel like shit, by the way.
