Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere
Good lord. That Myron Gaines dude is the pits. Can't even imagine having a cool birth name like Amrou and choosing to be called "Myron." What a prick.
SUPER rough watch. Rapey and awful and just so, so, so brittle. Each one of them just caved (in their own way) under the slightest pressure. That british guy seemed like the most weak in so many ways--literally called his mommy in to run game on LT. Kinda wild.
And we're fucked, too. Like culturally. Raising girls (eldest is NB, but assigned female at birth and 'came out' in high school, youngest is about as girly as you can get) in this enviornment continues to turn me into the dude from Falling Down.
Therein lies the cultural change that conservatives are forcing down everyone's throats. Some of these influencers grew up with Trump and MAGA in their formative teens. This is why public leadership is really important. It used to be, that the political leaders sent a strong message of ethical and moral fortitude, as it shows that real success is done through doing the right thing and being a good human. But now we are teaching our youth that being selfish, viscous, cruel and short-sided are ways to get ahead. Every parent should be upset and terrified of this change. It's an completely manufactured, because a lot of these guys are paid to be this way or specifically funded for this. This is also the extension of vapid reality-TV stardom. Keeping up with the Kardashians has done more damage to the United States that the terrorist act that was 9/11 could ever hope for.

Okay. Hear me out here… the Red Hot Chili Peppers doc about Hillel Slovak on Netflix is actually pretty good.

Yeah, I'm probably going to watch that. I might mute the parts when Anthony Kiedis speaks.

Actually he’s pretty good in this. It’s a strange doc.

Just finished ep2 of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Netflix's new horror series, and while I am digging the slow-burn dread-building atmosphere it is shot way too dark. Can't see a thing. I'm also into the music placement which on its face seems obvious but I love the punctuation it adds. Creepy.
