What does rent go for around where you live?
There is an studio apartment next to my house that is currently renting for $1650. I have been in there, it's very small.

However, it's really the cost of living that gets you out here. $4.70 for fuel in SF, $2 more for everything than what you'd pay in the Midwest (milk was five bucks a gallon a few weeks back), double the cost of going out, etc. I'm looking at a job in SF proper at the moment and it'll cost me $7-10 each day just to get to the job with train and bus fare.
Also, I swear to god that the price of tomatoes just went up now that they're in season. What the hell? I don't understand why produce that is probably grown here in California is more expensive than it was when I was in Wisconsin last week.
