I took Rex to my brother's so we could take him for a walk with my brother's dog, Molly. It was good to watch them hang out together and I got some nice photos of them having snarl exchanges with fat-necked swans on the lake and going out onto the pier. My brother gave us a lift home, but Rex isn't used to cars, so he whined all the way home and I had to contort myself for most of the ride in order to stroke his neck and calm him down. Just before we got back, at a busy junction, he jumped over the seats into my lap, then when I tried to hold him still he wriggled like hell and jumped onto my brother while he was driving. I had to basically hurl him back over the seats into the back before we hit something.
Dogs are excellent. It was interesting though; when me and Rex walk around, I hardly say anything, although he knows he has my attention all the time. The only time I call him is if he stays sniffing round other dogs for a long time and the owners are obviously getting a bit annoyed. My brother talks to his dog all the way around the lake, calling him a lot from out of places he goes and stuff. Molly does the fetching-the-stick-or-the-ball thing, whereas it's a bit lost on Rex; he just runs after the other dog then looks at you like "Am I supposed to be doing something here? You look like you're expecting me to and I'm eager to please, but what the fuck do you want with that stick? You just threw it away".

982I went to Don Caballero in London...
It was fucking terrible, NOT DON CAB and I left after about 30mins...
Seriously people Daimon Che might know his way around a drum kit, but he has no clue how to hire a new band..

983After more than a year of no steady paycheck (the money I make at the photography school where I work is not large, and not consistent hours) I finally have secured a part-time job that will allow me to pay my rent and most of my bills. In addition, since it is at a CUNY school, I can take classes for free.
Now I can choose my photographic jobs for their personal value, not their monetary value. I no longer have to freak out when people do not pay me on time (though I will still gently remind them that they owe me money) and I might even be able to save some money for the kickass lens I have been lusting after.
The most important thing, though, is that I can slowly get my life back together, which I have not been able to do properly because I am in survival/freakout mode.

989I've recently taken to early starts at work, arriving around seven am. It's helping me sleep better, because I'm tired around eleven at night, and I get some peace in the office before the hordes arrive. Two things so far this week. Tuesday morning, at 7.15, I became aware of yelling in the street. I looked out the window and saw about a dozen twenty-something revellers in evening dress, acting about as objectionably as you can when you're that drunk that early in the morning. Some were shouting about getting food, some were shouting about getting a taxi. One kept smacking his friend hard on the arse, until he swung very hard and missed and fell on his own. They meandered away, and five minutes later came an enormous downpour. Ha. I didn't care for these people.
This morning around the same time one of the other early arrivals here started playing the theme music from Cheers on her computer. I didn't ask her why and she didn't volunteer to tell me, but it retained it's own melancholy quality even out of it's proper time and proper context. It is still stuck in my head now and probably will be for the rest of the day.
