I was just reading in Mao: The Unknown Story by Jung Chang, that it is unsual for Chinese people to have armpit odour.

When one of Mao's wives attempted to find her estranged son, she noted that his unusual distinguishing features were oily ears and slight armpit odour. Which was deemed unusual for a Chinese person.
