When I go somewhere and see people I know, I generally walk over to them, extend my hand, shake their's and say, "Hello", or "How are you?", etc. I do the same thing when I meet new people, except I'll say something different (i.e. "Nice to meet you", etc.)

On Sunday evening, I went to a show. It was crowded and I knew many of the people in attendance. Of all of the people I spoke to, I think maybe only 3 or 4 of them actually shook my hand. Plenty of "hip-hop hugs" or some sort of "slap-your-hand" kind of "secret handshake" business.

It's almost gotten to the point of being confusing. I'm tempted just to wave at people from now on rather than partake in some sort of silly introductory dance of confusion everytime I acknowledge someone's presence.

Thoughts?

I shake hands when it's called for but I find the act a little creepy overall.

I usually only shake peoples hands if I or they are leaving, or if it is the first time I have met them.

There are two hand shakes here; the standard and the more "cultural" one which has the thumbs wrap around.

I like a more firm hand shake. I've heard people accuse other men of having a "poof's hand shake" in the past for lack of strength.

It leaves a better first impression of someone if they have a good hand shake.

(You have to watch how you word this subject)

Agreed. I always think it's creepy when a guy does the puppy dog head tilt and softly extends his hand to a lady. It's like, "Hi, I'm a date rapist."

to a *lady*, yeah, i'd say that can be weird. but to a chick? chicks are different than ladies.

you are not to shake hands with a lady, because that is not proper.

if you're telling chicks they aren't supposed to be involved in handshaking, you're basically sticking to the oldschool that keeps them out of the old boys' club. and plenty of chicks don't like that.

handshakes, hand *kisses* (which some females seem to get a fun laugh out of), hugs, thug-hugs, they're all good as the situation dictates. i think i like the touching-closed-fists variation the best for friends that i say hi and bye to on at least a weekly basis. if they're into that.

i also have absolutely no problem not making physical contact with someone.

Whenever I meet someone, whether it's the first I meet them or if I run into a friend, I make them give me a back rub.

I had an old friend that gave me a head scratch/massage kinda thing whenever we met. It messes up your hair, but it really felt good!! Damn hippies...
