With The Rocket going to the Astros today, they are looking pretty formandable. Whast ol Clem gonna do when he gets the ol brushback.
I guess this is a big fuck you to the evil empire.
The Angels are looking good too!
And the Padres and Orioles? What business do they have making their teams better?

Looks like Pete Rose is closing in on Ty Cobbs greatest record ---- biggest asshole ever.

Some folks are saying Puljous might be the best player ever.

Is he roided out like barry and sosa?

The fat guy's diet was beer, steaks, and whores and put out huge hitting numbers and was a freak as a pitcher---- 12 shutout innings in a world series game??????

Teddy Baseball gave up 4 of his best years to be a fighter pilot in ww2.

Satchell Paige?

Crosby to Stills to Nash!!!!!!

I don't think Babe Ruth pitched 12 scoreless innings in one WS game, but he did have a 29-inning scoreless streak or something ridiculous like that.

Dude could deal.

"Black Jack" Morris pitched 10 scoreless innings in the 1991 WS Game 7, to earn a 1-0 victory and championship for the Twins. He shouted down his mgr in the dugout, who wanted to take him out after 9. That was badass.

Enos Slaughter was an answer to today's New York Times (or Slimes, depending on your political position) crossword puzzle.

1916 World Series: Boston AL defeats Brooklyn NL, 4 games to 1.
"Sherry Smith and another young lefty nicknamed "The Babe" went at it for Game 2 in what has been dubbed as both a "double masterpiece" and a 'hitters nightmare". Through thirteen innings, both had allowed only six hits and one run each. In the bottom of the fourteenth, Dick Hoblitzell set the stage for a dramatic finish by drawing his fourth walk of the game. Duffy Lewis followed suite by sacrificing Hoblitzell into scoring position at second. With all his pieces in place, Red Sox manager Bill Carrigan prepared to checkmate his opponent by sending in Mike McNally as a pinch-runner and Del Gainor as a pinch-hitter. Gainor stepped up and delivered, driving in Hoblitzell and sealing Boston's 2-1 victory."

Vegas Odds to win the 2004 World Series:

3) Yankees 3.5 : 1
2) Cubs 3 : 1
1) Red Sox 2.5 : 1

My two cents:

Grady Little was hired by The Cubs as a scout.
Now I don't like Grady Little because he was a Red Sox manager (the day he redeems himself by becoming a Yankees' bench coach, ala' Don Zimmer, I'll accept him) and because he has quite possibly the slowest sounding, most annoying souther drawl short of sounding like a character out of Disney's "Song Of The South." But how does a guy who won 90+ games, won a AL divisional series, came withing 5 outs of going to the World Series, not only get fired, but NOT get another managing job?

I'm predicting a THIRD place finish for Boston in the AL East this coming season.

Not because their talent diminished. They did lose Tod Walker, but they gained in pitching. It's just always this way for Boston. They'll have a great season in which, by some dramatic occurrence, they narrowly miss baseball's pinnacle, and then follow it up with quite a few mediocre years. It happened to them after losing the 1975 World Series, it happened to them after the "Boston Massacre" and Bucky Dent's home run in 1978, it happened to them after the "Buckner Incident" and losing the World Series in 1986, it happened to them after being blown out by the Yankees in the ALCS in 1999, and it's going to happen to them this year following their dramatic late inning game 7 season ending homerun by Aaron Boone.

Look for Toronto or Baltimore, most likely Toronto, to finish ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East in 2004.

The Yankees will go to the World Series AGAIN! The offense has improved. The pitching has gotten younger. Contreres demonstrated one of the nastiest sliders baseball has ever seen and an effortless 98 mph fastball last year in flashes of brilliance. Look for him to be much more stable this year. Kevin Brown - a 2.35 ERA and 14 wins on the WORST offensive team in baseball last year - he's got better stuff AT THE MOMENT than Clemens. Keeping him off the DL is the issue. Vasquez - same scenario as Brown - outstanding stuff but a victim of a poor team with no run support. Look for Brown (for a year or two) and Vasquez (for years to come) to flourish with the Yankees. No more bullpen issues with Karsay coming back, Tom Gordon, and Quantrill (the guy who Eric Gagne credits for making his season what it was last year).

Now, who will the Yankees play? As much as Ide like to see it, The Rocket and Pettitte will be playing a lot of golf in October. That team couldn't even get a wild card spot despite being in one of the weakest divisions in baseball last season - no chance for the Astros. Congrats on retiring a loser in 2004 Clemens!

The Angels - so what if Vladimir Guerrero and Garrett Anderson make up the second most formidable one-two punch in baseball (can you say Giambi-Sheffield?) you still gotta make pitches, and Bartolo Colon is FAR from consistent.

Of course Pete Rose belongs in the Hall Of Fame. Ty Cobb didn't hit a lot of home runs either, and he's in the Hall Of Fame, and belongs in the Hall Of Fame. Pete Rose had more career hits than anyone, in history...there's no doubt that his stats are worthy of the Hall Of Fame.

Pete Rose spent most of his career as a lead off hitter. Lead off hitters and guys 2nd in the batting order don't usually have a lot of RBIs because it usually takes at least the first two batters to get a guy in scoring position. Derek Jeter bats 2nd, never leads the Yankees in RBIs....no one would fault him for his RBI stats. Rickey Henderson, arguably the greatest lead off hitter ever, had over 3,000 hits, and there are tons of guys in history with fewer hits and way more career RBIs. Lead off and 2nd batters are "table setters" not RBI men. Look at Pete's number of runs scrored if you want to see how impressive he was.

I did, however, appreciate Mickey Mantle's comments on Pete Rose: "If i'd have hit that many singles, I'd have worn a skirt."

Pete does belong in the Hall Of Fame, but should NEVER have a place in any MLB organization, nor should he be allowed to participate in any MLB sanctioned functions.
