Melvins take over Big Business

So, apparently, Kevin Rutmanis -- Melvin's bassist for the longest time to date -- is no longer in the band. Trevor Dunn took over for a small while. Now David Stone is currently interim bassist for the current dates for the current Jello + Melvins tour happening right now on the West Coast. While there was a Melvins/Big Business tour recently where they played together at the same time, the union of the two is apparently going to be a definitive line-up change.. however long it will last is anyone's guess.

Big Business -- Jared Warren (ex Karp, Tight Bros., The Whip) on bass/vocals and Coady Willis (ex Murder City Devils, Dead Low Tide) -- are moving from Seattle to Los Angeles, if not already, to become the new rhythm supplements to Melvins. The lineup will be:

Buzzo - guitar, vocals
Jared - bass
Dale - drums
Coady - drums #2

Big Business don't plan to break up, as far as I know, and they'll still be doing their thing, though obviously splitting their time between bands, of course.

Assuming this is all true, Melvins.. just... won, basically. This really can't be topped. This is total rock n' roll WMD action here. (Yeah, yeah, "won" is a hyperbole here, but you know what I mean.)

Melvins take over Big Business

HOLY ROCK people in Chicago do not miss this show tonight. I left the venue after they played last night with my long long hair and my shirt completely soaked from sweat - I could not stop moving for 2 hours. The 2 drummer thing is just unbelievable, of course Coady being such an incredible drummer is kinda what makes it. Be warned though, Jared is sporting the Buzz hair again. I asked him about how it was going after the show because I think he's going to get bored really quick playing bass with the Melvins, but he said nah, it's actually like a vacation. He said that's how he can play a 2 hour show without being dead by the end, and he likes that. Coady played relentlessly and he had such a pure smile on his face the whole time. This was by far the best Melvins show ever, and I even got to see Big Business play 4 or 5 songs before they were joined by Buzz and Dale.

I feel as good from this show as I did after Saturday at Touch n Go, if you can believe that.
